Hi all,
I own a PA1X and a PA800.
Please help me with creating a new set from 2-3 different ones since not all the styles in one set are really good.It may take up to 10sets to creaty one realy good one so we can use on a life performance with out worring not having a style.
I very familiar with all the procedure of writing down the DK for(drums and Perc), Sounds for (ACC 1-5) which completes the 8 gtr tracks.
I need to learn how can i empty the current RAM or ROM from all the samples so when i start creating the new set - than by pulling the DK or US1 and US2 sound and the samples will copy into RAM or ROM too.
CAn somebody help on this issue and also what is the difference between PCM and MULTSMP in the ....SET folder and what is the difference between RAM and ROM.
If anybody knows where i can read for all these issues please let me know.
the Manuals that i have for both keyboards are not really helpfull.
By thwe way I'm profesional guitar player but also working with the arranger part of the keyboard while performing live.
Hi nedkamo...
Let me tell you that on the first page of this website you will see the sticky treats so there is one that say TUTORIAL'S you will find there how to merge many SET's into one SET.... and make sure that you have all your SET's saved and working properly ( sometimes can be corrupted SET's ) and then just follow the instructions of merging SET's .... about the ROM and RAM...
Ram is the one that it will save all your samples and you have only 64MB and can be deleted as many times you want.
ROM is the one that holds all the originals factory samples and OS are located at the ROM so you cant delete the ROM samples.
For sure there is more people who knows about the RAM and ROM if my reply its not much information...
Paul.

Hi Ned, with regard to easily creating set's of styles, I use a program from Mick Barry called XRM to create new Banks of styles. You can load in all your existing banks of styles [and individual styles] and pick out and store in the program Database and then create new custom Banks ready to load into your pa. I have a basics Tutorial and a link to the [Free] program on my website below. Hope that is of some help to you in reconstructing your Sets, you just need to deal with your custom voice issues once loaded into your pa.
i've downloaded the software: XRM Version 1.3 Full Install(i'm using a PC)
from the website, but i see a list of additional software for download do i need to download the rest also?
Hi seq. XRM is all that you need to do as described above, however I also use PAL viewer to see what's actually in style banks before I load them into XRM. You can also print out the list of styles within a Bank so that is very usefull. So yes I would download that also....Here's a sample.
A lot has been written about this and not to discourage you this all seems
sweet written like this but in reality things are different, i wont get into
details but i Really wish you Luck in succeeding, in reality none of the above
will help you achieve any results, all this XRM stuff can be done directly on
the keyboard way better and faster but that is not the problem, the problem
starts way after that when you start dealing with KMP, KSF, DK and else.
If i was able to spread the Tree Branch in here then you will understand,
i will start from the Main and Biggest element on a Pa, Performance and then
go down to the smallest:
Performance from>Style+Sound from>Tracks (Acc and Drum) from>Sound
(Acc and Drum) from> RAM and ROM |(KMP from>KSF) (DK from>KSF)|
A Performance has a Style and 4 different Sounds in it, 3 Up 1 Low,
they might be coming from User, have to be found, those user Sounds
might be coming from RAM Samples which have to be found, assigned
back to the Sound or DK...ok, enough, no more nerves for this, LOL.
Someone offered here to combine someone elses sets for 50 or 100$,
i would like someone to combine for me, i will write down everything,
i wont pay 50 or 100, i will give 700$ to the one who does.

Hi Nedim,
Let me know how many User Styles, Performances, User Sounds and User Samples are involved? For $700 I would merge any number of SET files containing maybe 350 .SET file User elements in total. I recon a rough metric is that it takes me 1 hour to process 10 .SET file User elements, test it and fix any mistakes. It's donkey work.
Of course, Babosh's software is the closest so far to automating this, but I think he (and Keith and I) lost heart when we discovered there is a serious fault in the Pa2x LOAD algorithms causing complete crash when you load .SET files that work perfectly on Pa800.
Hi Rob,
I was talking to Frank at Audioworks,CT(very nice guy) i bought 2 keyboards from him, and he said that he has the 3DVD set of yours with the KORG Arrangers secrets.
Is this issue explained there(creating 1set from 2-3-5 sets depending of how many styles are good in each one).
By the brief description from Mr.Nedim(Basari Studio) which i thank him a trilion i most likely have a clue what needs to be done.
QUESTION:
Lets say i use set 1 as a foundation because this sets has more than 50% of styles that i need(combining user + Favorites). I already have placed all the styles in proper location thats why i want to use this one as foundation.
So can i go and erase all the MULTISAMPLES,SAMPLES in sound mode and than start importing them back (this just saves importing styles, sounds and perf).
And i think when you are assingning a FAVORITES in PA800 its very hard to have the styles play there(the right way)because of the 64MB RAM.
You guys have PA2X and has a RAM memory of 4 PA800 keyboards-256MB, do you think that makes a big difference because the number of user sounds and DK is still the same US1-128,US2-128 DK-64.
please help By the way i have a PA1X and PA800 for sale in NEw Jersey.Should i go and purchase PA2X or wait for the PA3X(people say it 1GB RAM).

Hi Ned, I have the pa2x but personally speaking I would keep both the keyboards you already have and wait for pa3x if indeed the 1Gig Memory rumour is true, can't see why it wouldn't be as Ram is very cheap now. My reason here is that I've messed about with sampling and adding sounds to my pa2x etc but have found that I can tweak the Rom samples to how I like them and just couldn't do anything better with imported samples - to my ears.

Hi nedkamo,
I'm afraid that this is not explained in the videos, although a lot of other complex stuff is explained. We were paying for studio time, it was on the agenda but we had to leave it out because other things took priority, and then our deadline of studio closing at 8pm arrived. At the time we made the videos we fully expected Korg to solve the issue in an automated way.
It can get very complicated when merging SET files especially if User Sounds/Drumkits are linked to User Styles. It is very easy to merge SET files that only contain User Sounds. It is very easy to merge SET files that only contain User Styles so long as they use Korg Factory Sounds and Drumkits. The complication arises when the linkages between User Sounds and User Styles are changed due to relocation of User Sounds, and it is then tedious work to edit the User Style to repair all the broken references. Just remember that in a Style there can be up to 12 sub-parts comprising variations, fills, intros plus for each there can be umpteen Chord Variations. You have to fix every sub-part and it's brain numbing work.
God only knows why Korg supplied a keyboard with half the functionality needed to manage SET files. And despite asking Korg on many occasions to assist by supplying definitions of the SET file format to independent developers, this help has not been provided either. The lack of co-operation caused a complete fall out between me and Korg over 18 months ago, and it may also explain why Mr Tramannoni has been absent from the forum for so long.
If anybody can send me the step by step procedure on merging set i would realy be thankfull till death. Like i expalined before i would like to start with a SET that i like, keep 20-30 styles, erase all the samples,(thiis will be done on a copy of the original SET- so i can pull samples from the original) and than start loading all the sounds(factory and user), DK(user) and all the multisamples and samples will load with them , right ?
Combining Sets:
Step 1:
1. Open SET 1, check it out and find out what you want, write down each style, each perf and sound.
2. For each style write down which DRUM KIT and which USER SOUND it uses and that means on
what track in the style it is,on what location in the User bank it is.
3. For each performance write down which User Sound the performance uses.
4. Do exactly the same with SET 2.
Step 2:
1. Go to Sound Mode then hit record and enter SAMPLING. Click the arrow and choose DELETE.
Delete all samples, multisamples and user drum kits, in Sampling Info check for everything to be 0.
2. Go to MEDIA MODE and go to ERASE, on the POP UP menu choose USER SSD and in there in
each folder delete everything.Start with Performances, then Pads, then Sounds, then User Drum Kits.
3. Start LOADing ONLY the Styles that you wrote down, one by one in one bank or whatever.
4. Start LOADing ONLY the Performances you wrote down, same as Styles.
5. Start LOADing the USER DRUM KITS as you wrote them down, one by one, they will LOAD their
own samples, you dont haveto do anything in sampling mode, just keep loading one by one.
6. Do the same with USER SOUND...exactly the same as LOADing the USER STYLES.
Step 3:
1. Open the BOOK that you wrote:
2. Go to Style Mode then choose the first style then hit RECORD then you are in Style Record Mode
and in there hit MENU and choose Style Elements.
3. In here start to assign each DrumKit to its place and also each User Sounds that was used in that
style. Do that for eachStyle Element, in here if you press VAR or any other element the programs will
change, you have to check for each VAR,FILL, INTRO.
4. After you do that and it sounds ok to you press the ARROW on top and hit SAVE, SAVE that style.
Hit Record again and get out of there...you have to do that for each style.
5. Sellect each Performance and in the 3 Upper tracks start assigning the User Sounds they use.
6. Choose Media, go to Save, choose ALL, NEW SET, rename it, hit OK, check ALL of the BOXes and SAVE.
