It looks cool and all, but you need to be aware that you can only use this if you have an iOS device.

I know. I already have iOS devices. But its cruel to those who don't have it. I understand why they did this though - Korg makes all of their apps now for iOS, so this is just a continuation of this trend. And software is necessary to probably manage the samples, etc. But I think it goes against the standalone spirit of the volcas.

I agree, the electribe sampler will be superior in every way - it can also run on batteries just the same as the volcas.

I don't see how the iOS requirement should be a deal breaker. If anything, second hand iPod touches are cheap as chips, so even if you don't have an iPad or iPhone around this will still make for a cheap and compact sampler solution.

And it's understandable. It probably uses a bluetooth LE connection for transferring the samples, which is barely standardised across the bazillions of Android devices (and which is very well supported on iOS).

It certainly looks like a very desirable and fun bit of kit. I'd love to add one to my collection of knobby funboxes.

If you check the youtube link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSTxg43_wBM), read the comments, many ppl are nonetheless upset. Whether you can get an ipod cheap or not, for many people it means another purchase to use the device.

And I doubt it will use Bluetooth. Likely its going to be an audio sync option via the SYNC IN port.

But I think we should all wait until more info comes out before we all make up our minds. Anyway, at least peeps can choose between this and the upcoming electribe sampler, or look elsewhere (MPC, etc.)

But you are right, all in all this might just end up being a very cheap sampling option regardless.

I forgot to add: it would be cool if Korg could just port the iOS sample manager over to PC/Mac as well so non iOS users could also enjoy it.

I'm just holding out from using any Apple product. Pride kills, right? haha.

I'm guessing that you will make a proprietary file where it bundles the samples in the iOS app, then you plug it to the sync-in and upload it like how doing firmware updates to the monotribe works.

Not quite true. The unit comes loaded with a bank of samples, according to the website. But of course I understand we all want to load our own...

The unit will operate perfectly straight out of the box. You wont need an IOS device to operate it.

When has Korg provided expectation of any interface between android and its products?

yes it will work but without an iOS device you can't load any samples of your own. Hence, you NEED an iOS device to truly use this. Otherwise, its just a beatbox and not a sampler. Like I said before, they need to develop a PC/Mac sample manager so that those who don't have an iOS device aren't forced to buy one. Its a simple thing to do that will increase their sales and not isolate non-apple users.

But it comes with a "Baby!" sample and an 808 cowbell... Why would you want to replace these with your own?
