I have just bought the Kronos 2, brand new from the shop. When creating a combination I had a problem with the volume suddenly diminishing by at least a 50% on some programmes. It stopped doing it for a while until last night. I was playing an already constructed combination, I had assigned (Midi Channel 2) some sounds to my other keyboard (Roland A-800Pro). The volume on these sounds only suddenly dropped by 50%. The volume on the programme on global channel was OK. I switched off and left it for a while, came back to it and everything was OK again. I thought it might be the midi cable to the Roland that was faulty, as initially the sound was at the proper volume for a nano second and then suddenly went, as though there was a faulty cable. BUT I was just now playing a single programme, (Rhodes) on its own and it has just done the same again.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any help would be appreciated, but I suspect there is a fault and it may be going back to the shop. I need this for live gigs, and at the moment it cannot be relied on.

I would isolate the potential problem and keep the A800 out of the combi.

Tell us about your pedals. Especially your pedal controller assignments in global

I have Foot Switch Assign - OFF
Foot Pedal Assign - Expression CC#11 (Using a Roland EV-5)
Damper Polarity - (+) (Using a Roland Damper Pedal)
Foot Switch Polarity - (-) KORG Standard

As you may have gathered I had a Roland keyboard before this.

About this:
Damper Polarity - (+) (Using a Roland Damper Pedal)

which pedal input is used ( on your Kronos) for your Roland damper pedal ?

maybe experiment with your pedal settings.

for Damper Polarity I use the minus value. But I use the Korg DS1H sustain pedal. Its highly recommended for Kronos.

I also use the EV5. Excellent pedal.

Hard to imagine its intermittently sending "expression " or volume changes over midi. Maybe mess around with the dial on the EV5, unplug that cable.

Did you purchase your K2 factory sealed from your retailer ? If its " A " stock, the chances of a component failure are very tiny, like 1 in 500 ( my est)

I suppose you know your midi. Even so, I would test Kronos Programs without a midi cable to your A800. A wild chance it could be sending a midi echo to your K2

Many thanks for your input.

I will try what you suggest. The K2 I bought was transferred from another branch of the music shop chain here in the UK and was waiting for me to try unpacked in the shop. So I didn't receive it factory sealed.

I will let you know what happens.

Be careful not to move the Vector Joystick as sometimes it will diminish volume depending on the Program/combi. That joystick is like a hairpin trigger!

Thats a good point. That vector joystick has close to zero resistance. Its a design flaw IMO

It might be worth changing Knob/Slider Mode to "Catch" mode in Global settings, P0 Basic setup tab. That will help to stop small the amounts of "dither," or noise, coming out of the control pots from triggering knob and slider-controlled parameter changes, and help to identify if this is the cause of the disappearing volume. Also, try unplugging all pedals and external controllers, then reconnecting them individually.

.

Many thanks to all for your input. I was aware of the sensitivity vector control stick and it definitely isn't that. I will try all your suggestions and let you know how it goes.

Many thanks

The Kronos has gone back to the shop. Korg support seem to think there may be something wrong with keyboard itself.
