Hello, guys,

can you recommend me a good (E-)book on synthesis? Something not aimed at any particular brand or synth.

I came across the list below at some site and although I have read a few articles here and there, I think that a book would give me a lot more:
Quote:

1) Do you understand subtractive synthesis?
a) what oscillators are and how they work? or wavetables?
b)what is an envelope generator and how it works?
c) What is an LFO and how it works?
d) What are sound generators, what are modulators?
e) What is the filter and how does it work?

2) Do you understand what MIDI is and how it works?

3) Do you understand what Partials are?

4) Do you understand what Mutis are?

The point on MIDI can be rulled out. As for the other things, I know what some of them are, but to say that I understand them would be an overstatement.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Get a look here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160403115835/http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/allsynthsecrets.htm.

Start at the bottom of the list, part 1. I found it an interesting series of articles. Though I did not read them all. The nice thing is that it links synthesis techniques to real world instruments, although some people may not be interested by that at all. You can skip these parts.

I'm not sure it will answer question 2 to 4. But Q1 is pretty much covered.

Have fun.

Thank you, really nice articles.
This is well sufficient for now - the first point was the most important one for me anyway.
