|
|
I just purchased a Kronos and have found that unless I use a pair of balanced TRS 1/4" cables on the outputs L/R I get a noisy hum through my monitors. Is this normal? I have other keyboards with balanced outs and have used TS cables with no hum issues. I'm really hoping there's nothing wrong with the Kronos. Please advise.
Thanks in advance!!!!

You might have some ground loop somewhere, try Connecting both/or all equipment to same power supply.
I have switched from unbalanced to balanced myself, but did not notice any considerable hum when I was on unbalanced. _________________ DX7-MOD-7 Patches | Korg Related Content

I have gotten hum from power lines to close to audio, but it wasn't much, and other noisy devices on the same line, like fans vacuums microwaves etc. |

The Kronos is not usually prone to a noisy audio output,so it may be the cable connection, its routing,or some line interference somewhere.
An earth (ground) loop is the most common problem, one solution,as suggested,is to have all gear connected to the same power source,(common earth etc).
Because by using balanced connection works……nothing much to worry about if you can use that instead.
Best Wishes. |

If you have a ground loop problem a hum eliminator should take care of the problem. I have that problem with some of my synths and use the Ebtech HE-2 XLR 2-Channel Stereo Hum Eliminator with XLR.

I'm so happy with my Palmer PLI-02, which I use with both balanced inputs and outputs to keep away any unexpected evil-doers from the FOH. It has ground lift, too, and since I don't use it to balance my signal (since it is balanced anyway by the stereo cables that I use to connect the K to it), there is no signal loss (which is found with any passive DI-box). Pristine signal quality. |
