|
|
All,
Following on from a previous discussion, I have now successfully connected the Songbook+ app on iPad to the Pa4X. Before explaining "how to", let's address the "so what?"
Songbook+ is essentially a sheet music reader and this allows me to store my sheet music or lyrics (or any other PDF's) on the iPad. I can also easily create setlists within the app. When a song is selected in the reader, it automatically selects the entry I need from the Korg Songbook which triggers the required keyboard settings. But it works either way - select a Song Entry from either the Korg Songbook or from a Korg Setlist, and it will "pop" the right piece of sheet music in the Songbook+ app. Brilliant.
________________ SETUP ________________________
PHYSICAL CONNECTION
- Connect the iPad via an Apple Camera Connection Kit and USB cable to the keyboard USB Device port on the rear (NOT to a USB host port)
SONGBOOK+
- From the app settings, set the Midi Settings/Control Channel to 16
- For each song in Songbook+, use the Edit and enter a Code number to match a Korg Song Selection Entry number (see Pa4X User Manual, p126)
ON THE Pa4X
- Go to Global/Midi/Midi Preset/Tablet and set ch=16 to Control for both Midi In and for Midi out (these are the defaults and may already be factory set)
- Add Song Entry numbers to entries in the Korg Songbook that you want to synch with the app. This is done in Songbook mode (use Songbook panel button), select a Song Entry and then Book Edit 1
___________________FINAL COMMENTS________________________
The synch works in either direction (ie select a song in Songbook+ and pop the correct Korg Songbook entry, or select either a Korg Songbook Entry OR a Korg SETLIST entry to pop the sheet music in the app) - so it is a personal preference whether to maintain setlists in the app, or in the Pa4X, or both.
Songbook+ offers lots of other convenient features: trigger a midifile on opening a song; send sysex; timed page turns; and action buttons which I believe can be selected from the app to trigger selection of variations, endings, and so on* (*I still need to play with this, but it worked on my Roland BK-7m arranger)
If you are searching the Apple app store, type Songbook + (with a space, not Songbook+). The Lite version is fully functioning, but with a restriction on the number of songs that can be stored, with in-app purchase to the unlimited version. Or google 'Baum Software' on your iPad.
[I have no relationship with Baum - it is just that this is my favourite app! I have only had my Pa4X a few days, and am so pleased I got this working so easily that I had to share it]

Can ipad be used to only display lyrics from pa4x songbooks entries and to have normal home or songbook screen on pa4x at the same time? |

You could do that by putting lyrics in PDF into Songbook+ instead of sheet music. By using a Korg Song number, you can either select an entry in Songbook+ to automatically trigger your Songbook entry on the Pa4x , or, select an entry in the Korg Songbook and that will automatically bring up the lyrics on Songbook+ (or both). _________________ Korg Pa4X (OS NEXT 3.1.0)

For the connection, prefer to use Bluetooth MIDI Yamaha BT-MD1. I have been using it for about a year and working superbly. |

|
|
Good Morning,
I just bought a iPad and Yamaha MD-BT01 to use with my PA4X.
Can I get some quick instructions on how I get this working with the PA4x.
I have lyrics in PDF format and would like to connect with corresponding style or midi on the PA4x.
regards, Ross, Melbourne, Australia |

Hi Rosco,
I found this article which might help you get started (I don’t use the Yamaha Bluetooth device, but plan to purchase one in next month or so. See my article earlier in this thread for channel settings advice).

Done a bit more research on this. I don’t think you need yet another app.
If you are using Songbook+ then go to its Settings/Midi and i think the Yamaha midi device will be selectable.
Let us know how you go. _________________ Korg Pa4X (OS NEXT 3.1.0)

Still no luck connecting PA4x to iPad. Midi control on PA4x is set to 08-tablet.
Bluetooth on iPad cannot find the Yamaha MD-BT01 which is plugged into midi in /midi out on the 4x. I have checked that the two plugs match the arrows in and out. The MD-BT01 left hand midi-in plug flashes red/green and the instructions say it will light continuously when connection is made.
I have tried to connect with iPhone 8 but same result.
Any help is appreciated. |

Hi,
I got this combination working perfect with the following steps:
1. Plug in the MD-BT01 to the PA4X, turn on the PA4X
2. Open Songbook+ and touch the "3 points" in the menubar
3. Choose the item "Bluetooth LE MIDI"
4. Choose the item "Bluetooth LE MIDI Devices"
5. Now your MB-BT01 Device must be shown in the devicelist as "not connected"
6. Touch "not connected" and wait until the connection is shown.
7. Now go to an entry of a title and switch on the edit window
8. Enter in the "Code" field the same value as you did in the correspondig songbookentry on the PA4X and save.
Thats it. I hope it works. |
