Two options:

1. You run one stereo/TRS cable from one to the other: from sync-out of one device to sync-in of the other device. The device connected via sync-out is the master of the tempo. (So either the monologue or the volca)

2. MIDI cable from monologue MIDI OUT to Volca MIDI IN. The monologue is in this case always the master of the tempo. The other way around is not possible. Via this method, it may also be possible the starting of the sequencer on the monologue, starts at the same time the sequence on the volca.

Have fun

Hi all,

Not to resurrect a zombie thread, but I've got a Monologue and a Volca Synth, as well as an Alesis SR16 drum machine.

With MIDI out from the Monologue to the SR16, the Mono controls temp and stop/start on the Alesis.

However, I have not been able to start/stop or adjust tempo on the VS from the Mono, either using the little sync cable from out on the Mono to in on the VS, or running from MIDI out/thru on the SR16 to MIDI In on the VS. I must be missing something really basic, but there's very little actual documentation I can find on the VS. I got it used, and it didn't come with any docs. I found a little four/language leaflet on Korg's site, but it just says that I can sync modules together by using the little sync cable. I'm not sure their definition of "sync" is the same as mine.

To clarify, I pulled the MIDI from the SR16 to the VS. Didn't seem to be doing anything.
The Mono does seem sometimes to send sound through the VS, and sometimes not. Not sure what makes it happen or not happen.
It does not, however, start or stop sequencer playback on the VS.

Sync clock does not provide start/stop message. Only MIDI does.

And the MIDI from the Mono to the Alesis starts and stops play on the Alesis. So maybe I need to hook the MIDI through on the Alesis back up to the Volca? The Volca has just MIDI In, so it's got to be last in line. Maybe I just need to see how the Out/Through is set up on the Alesis. Seems like Through would be the optimal solution.
Thanks!

Yep we can all lament the lack of MIDI THRU plugs on most equipment these days, thankfully there are splitters that can give us this functionality back, like the Miditech MIDI Thru/4 Filter box. Then you can use one device to share MIDI clock and start stop without worrying about lack of thru outputs on your devices.
