Finally i found some innovation
NoN Linear Labs C15
http://keyszone.boards.net/thread/229/back-basics-stephan-schmidt-started
Its not only the (non midi) instrument thats innovative, but the whole philosophy of this Comapny
I decided this discussion best fits a new topic.. as its the opposite of the rest of the buiseness that shows no innovation at all _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

Absolutely.
And I think it is ridiculous to use this omission to promote this instrument as a 'player's instrument' as if MIDI instruments are not played by musicians. |

I think not having midi, is the base of the whole idea of creating a true instrument... if you add midi, in the end all there is left is another midi controller...
The point is not having midi is forcing people to be creative with whats in the box...
And while i would love to see an instrument like this as a VST controller.. (the workflow seems very intuitive, i can see what Schmidt is trying to archieve. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

I don't know... I think I'd prefer a really good controller that's well integrated to work with Reaktor - I'm still waiting for Novation to bring out an SL V3, with more controllers and screens

To be honest I almost never use MIDI anymore when I record hardware, I totally get this philosophy. I like to think I'm a passable player, I studied for many years at least. So I record what I play and if it's not good, I record it again.
There are some cases where it would be nice to control one instrument from another but for me personally, I could count those times on one hand yearly. |

This is not convincing at all! I can come up with thousands of scenarios where midi is useful for a serious keyboardist or a production environment! What a weird decision! I would love to see how long this idea will last... _________________ Sam

The synth doesnt sound very good.
No midi.
This synth will be a Huge flop.
Casio makes better sounding synths than this metalic sounding thing. |

I wanted to like it but I also don't care for what I have heard from it. |

To be really innovative you need to remove the headphone Jack, not the midi port.
Stupid people. Don't they know only Apple is allowed to go backwards and be praised. |

While I think that leaving out MIDI is not a good idea I do understand the underlying philosophy out of which this decision grew.
It's just that I feel Schmitt took this philosophy one step too far.
However, a good synthesizer inspires creativity and has its own sound character, and I think this synth fits that bill.
While the big companies apparently seem to shine through the absence of interesting announcements on their part, I have to praise Waldorf and NonLinear Labs for coming up with synths that may be expensive but which aim to bring their own sound to the music scene.
BTW, a lot more demos of the C15 are to be found at the Nonlinear Labs demo page. |
