I'm keen to understand how I can set up a sound so that it pans in stereo. For example, with a piano you would hear the bass notes in the left channel, and as you move up the piano, the notes move with you so middle C (C4) is in the centre and the top notes are in the right channel.
I'm keen to try this with a piano sound, but would also be keen to try it with some of the synth sounds (eg using a portamento from C6 to C2 would sweep from the right channel to the left channel).
Can this be done, preferably in Combi as I tend to use these for most songs?
Thanks
PS: This forum is magnificent. I'm getting a huge amount more out of my Kronos thanks to the sharing of ideas here. _________________ Peter

Thats a good one.
I am not sure how to do that but also not sure if i should say it cannot be done.
Berlin Grand in SGX does that all in program mode and can invert those panning dynamics from player to audience perspective.
I will stay tuned here for any news on how to do it with other sounds or in combi.
Karma does Auto Pannning but that is not note specific, but i wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to set notes as input for GE parameters that can adjust for pan perspective.
Seems a bit crude but Combi can pan per timbre and each timbre can be key zoned. The combined effect of the pan per timbre and zone per timbre, can arrange a nice pan across the keys, less than every half octave per pan zone on 88keys. It Would use up a lot of timbre space for one sound that normally goes to layering. Basically spliting the same sound over and over again, across the key range. |

Thanks KK, that sounds exactly what I'm after.
Can you walk me through how to do this on the Tabs? Also, can this be replicated for specific Timbres within a Combi? _________________ Peter

I was thinking along these lines:
- put your sound on 2 timbres in a combi (both on Gchannel)
- pan one timbre left; the other right
- in the midi keyboard zones tab, have both timbres use the whole keyboard, but have the one panned left fade out to the right; the other one fade out to the left
That should do it. Downside is you'll use 2 timbres instead of one. _________________ Kronos X-88, Nanopad2, Tascam US122 MKii, Roli Rise 49 |

Hi there,
tomto66's idea is a correct alternative in combi mode, although it can create some phasing in the middle region where the bottom slope and top slope will meet. See PG (Parameter Guide) page 593 if needed.
For HD-1 and AL-1 programs, use the Pan control in the Amp/Driver tab(s) set to Note Number. See PG page 86 and 210 for more details. Works also with the CX-3 organs, etc. |

Thanks tomto66, for some of my Combis that will work well.
KK, that's really helpful. I'm looking forward to testing this out. _________________ Peter

@tomto66 - can you explain more detailed how to setup the midi keyboard zones tab that one panned left fade out to the right and the other one fade out to the left. Is it in the Keyboard Zones and if yes - which values have to be entered for each timbre? Thx for your support |
