Hi, I was wondering what mij Korg Arp Odyssey would sound like if it was polyphonic. Instead of sampling I went creative with Reaktor and now have build an effect that uses pitch shifting to create the extra polyphony: MonoToPoly. The advantage over sampling is that you actually play the original synth and can change the sound real time.

Here is a demo video: https://youtu.be/z0oCMD1Ldck

And here you can download the Reaktor ensemble: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/reaktor-community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/11281/

I use it for my KARP, but you can obviously use it for a monoloque or any other mono synth as well, as long as it has midi.

It is not perfect yet, but it works. I hope to improve it in the future, but I hope you enjoy the concept anyway.

Problem with that technique is the result is paraphony at best, you still only have the one filter/envelope? If you want to try polyphonic Odyssey i recommend the Arp Odyssei app - might be "only" software (which i presume is what the extra "voices" are in MonoToPoly are anyway) but up to 32 voices and sounds really good - I have been using it within Korg Gadget.

Slug, you are right that it has its limitations, and the Odyssey app will be very nice. But it is not a very good solution if you want to make your Monologue, Erebus or custom build eurorack synth polyphonic. The MonoToPoly concept can be used with any mono synth. Therefore, I do hope some clever guy is going to build something similar as an hardware effect(I am thinking of something with arduino?).

By the way, the notes do have there own envelopes, and by adding filters in the Reaktor blocks it can become a bit more than just paraphonic. The mono synth becomes more sort of an advanced oscilator within your own custom synth. For instance, I have added a Monark filter (which is a bit like cursing in the church (<= Dutch saying, but I hope the meaning is clear Smile . So you can take the concept a whole step further.

On a personal note: I had a lot more fun with building and playing this than I probably would have had with buying some software. But of course, thats just me.
