Hey everyone. New owner of a Korg Kronos 2, 73. I bought Epic Grand for it, and I'm trying to find a way to load Epic Grand and the internal Pianos at the same time. Maybe I am missing something, but when I load Epic Grand, it over-writes all the others. Is there a way to tell the Kronos to only load German Grand and Epic Grand?

Thanks!

Ben

Parameter guide page 763-765 KSC autoload.

Parameter guide 766-767 Sample manage.

Page 165 talks about remaping sample banks.

This Sample manage and map stuff is a belly ache section for me so i will point to the parameter guide section on it and keep my advice limited.

Sample manage lets you remove any samples you want. You can remove entire banks or indivudual samples and even remove streo parts of them.

Here is a link to online parameter guide book.

Somewhere you may find a way described for how to load samples where you want them so you don't have overwriting going on.

Maybe even better you have the parameter guide direction and someone else come in with comment on the exact details you need.

EXi programs (like German Grand) and HD-1 programs (Epic Grand) must have their own program banks, because of the different technologies used. You can put those programs next to each other in the Set List.

If I'm not mistaken, Epic Grand is a sample library. You load that into the Kronos' ROMpler/sample engine, the HD-1. German Grand is an SGX-1 program that is an EXi engine which uses some modelling elements (even though it uses Korg's samples).

It used to be more simple, on the OASYS. If a program was sample based, it was an HD-1 program, which handles ROMpler duties (similar to Triton, M3, Motif, Fantom, etc.). All the synth engines were EXi (STR-1, CX-3, MOD-7, PolySix, MS-20). They were mostly Synth Kit style code that resided in part of the OS.

When Korg updated the OASYS into the Kronos, they added two more Expanded Instrument (EXi) engines, the modelled electric piano, EP-1 and the acoustic piano engine, the SGX-1, then SGX-2 (via Kronos 2). The SGX engine has modelling elements, but is different from other EXi synth engines because it requires samples to make it work. This makes it confusing, when you add sampled piano libraries into the mix.

Kronos does have piano samples, as well. They don't use any modelling, just the regular HD-1 parameters. Your Epic Grand falls into this category. It will make more sense if you can wrap your head around this EXi versus HD-1 concept. Smile
