What shall I buy.........
..A car?
..Put a deposit on an investment property?
..Cruise through Europe with my wife for 14 days?
..Renovate the bathroom?
..TOL Apple iMac and Macbook Pro
or.......
..Genos?

The price of this thing is a joke!!!!!!
I'm not going to bother trying it now despite the fact that it has at last landed here locally.
If I was wealthy, I would still find it hard to justify this "Tyros 6" with a new name.

I've been a Yamaha fan for many years and owned many of their keyboards (including Tyros) but I am now very frustrated with Yamaha - thought they would have really put some effort into this.
Yep - Genos sounds nice but it's another severely over-priced semi-lazy upgrade.

Boy, it's annoying - was so looking forward to this....

Pete Crying or Very sad

The price is not a joke..

Its selling in truckloads here in europe

If so many people are prepared that much for a keyboard.

Then who is to blame Yamaha for the high price?

Well I'm sure korg are taking note and will home in on any good points that Genos presents in amongst some of the old stagnant one's.... perhaps we will see a PRO version of the Genos in the future (who knows??... But unlikely) Will be interesting to see if korg drip feed a few more upgrades into the PA4X before we see its replacement in the next few years....unfortunately the weak points of Genos outweigh any of the strong points it may have ....so in the mean time I will continue to enjoy the PA4X and all it has to offer.

Hi Nemik

This is an interesting read....
I could definitely see advantages of extending the many sounds from the hi-hat.

Couldn't make any sense of the "Mr Soul" MP3 - what was I supposed to hear - it just seemed like a basic style - drums were not really impressive at all - was I missing something?

Cheers

Pete
We can always add more Hi-Hats.
Korg have 25 more keys available in Drums Set that Yamaha.
or use layers.
Wink
This Revo is good idea, but looks like only works on special Style Drums tracks, which make kinda not universal.
Special custom tracks programming will be always better that standard, even if you play Pa600 Razz
no need 6500$ Genos for this.

Hi All

My opinion is that they sell despite that ridiculous price and lack of superior performance/editing capabilities simply because of the openness of the midi parameters and the worldwide community and support with third party software etc...unlike with Korg and our community.

OPINION!!!

Hi Guys,
Just to pick up on a point Bachus mentioned when he said that the price of the Yamaha Genos was not a joke.
I truly respect Bachus and watch his comments on both this Forum and P.S.R. Tutorial. He's a very knowledgable Forum member.
My point would be that just because people are easily parted with their hard earned cash for a keyboard that is clearly overpriced does not stop the cost being a joke. It's nearly twice the price of a PA4X, and before people start telling me the price of a PA4X has gone up to £3,000 then I suggest they contact a Korg dealer and they will find the room for negotiation and a reduction in price will be much greater than you'll get on a new Montage. You will be paying around £4,250 for the Genos.
When I purchased my PA4X (61) a year ago, I could have got it brand new for £2,000 but chose to pay a little extra to purchase it from a chosen dealer. Korg have increased retail prices on the PA4X, but personally I think that is irrelevant in relation to the actual price you will pay (dependant on your negotiating skills).
I certainly do not want to knock the Genos as a keyboard. I have played one and it's a fantastic experience (just like the Aston Martin V8 Vantage I drove around a track five times as a birthday gift last year). As a result of both of their exorbitant costs I won't own either, but it doesn't mean I don't covet them !!
Unfortunately I have to disagree with Bachus on the 'joke of a price' issue, as once the diehards have all purchased their Genos keyboards then I think Yamaha will struggle to 'shift boxes' without giving substantial discounts.

Yamaha Genos seems to be about £4k with the lowest GAK at £3745

Korg PA4X presumably with Osimo at GAK is £2815

So haggle and the Korg can no doubt be had for quite a bit less from your favoured supplier.

So about £1000 difference between the makes, is the Genos worth that much of a premium?

Is it the Yamaha logic of low priced keyboards getting people into the brand and working them up the range?

I certainly started on a Yamaha but was totally under impressed by the ease of operation of the control system, was certainly not impressed by the sound quality of mid range models compared to the Korg equivalents.

For what it's worth, I paid £3600 for my Genos (keyboard only), possibly have got it slightly cheaper if I had pushed the supplier.

Had it now for four weeks and a big improvement to my previous Tyros 4.
Maybe a little early to assess it but at the moment still prefer my pa4x..... but time will tell Very Happy

OK - now this is interesting:-
Here, the Genos street price was AUD7000 and PA4X-76 AUD4899
Then just a couple of weeks ago Genos down to AUD6500 and PA4X up to AUD5800
Today Genos is down again to AUD6300
So Genos is now only AUD500 more than PA4X!!!!!!

Where is this going? Is this happening in your country?????

Confused Confused Confused
