I hope this topic is not to annoying , especially for us long time Kronos owners.

Am going to state a few premises, for the sake of discussion. There is no right or wrong answer. I can throw around extra silly stuff, but I am not good at that.

I personally think Kronos 2 owners , those that purchased in the past 3 years, are set for awhile. There is still great utility with the Kronos 2 for the money you spent.

If you are in the 4 to 6 year Kronos owner class, I think we are living grand, sort of playing with ' house money ' ( at the casino).

We are having a great time learning and playing for a long period of time. To have spent $3000, and enjoyed a keyboard fully, for 72 months(or 48 mos), ( @ $42 or $60 per month), that is an incredible keyboard W/s music bargain.

All this is IMO, I remind you.

Going to play with more numbers, which might get boring. I think there is a
30% chance Korg will show us a great new workstation by Jan NAMM. Thats
not a big estimate.

I think there is a 60% Chance that Korg will have a Kronos 3 for us by Jan NAMM. It will be very nice but it won't be quite enough reason for many of us
to throw down the plastic.

Am I keeping you awake ? Those of you that say Korg does not have to do anything, these #'s support that assertion.

If you like to plan, and have a budget, the above might be food for thought.

For what little I know, its getting closer....

Or not Smile

There has been a lot of complaints about the RH3, especially with the SV-1.
I think a new workstation or Kronos 3 is coming soon.
There was a rumor floating around that Korg's new hammer-graded action will be announced before the end of the year--that is, a product with the new piano action. *shrug*

Korg just put out a lot of new gear this year. Recently was the new mid class Arrangers and workstations. Nothing in the flagship class.

Yamaha has definitley taken the Flagship class up a notch with the Genos a few days ago. And seems to be trying out a new trend with the Workstation/Arranger makeup. Although i am still looking for details about any worthwhile sequencer in Yamaha Genos.

So korg may not listen to Users so much on what they want(i would like a korg workstation with a bit more of arranger qualites, but i may be asking for a more expensive rig without intending to), but korg will listen to the competition. Onboard wifi in Genos? Super-Arranger being called a Workstation? I like this direction but still no clear details on if or what sequencer Genos has. Either way, Montage was also not so clear or well endowed on the sequencer end if i gathered correctly. Must be the Yamaha way of selling the external sequencers they make/made.

Seems time for a new flagship but will it be PAx5 or Kronos 3? Or a complete remake and rename of either?
New keybed launches arrive best in a new flagships, as usual. So that is telling if the new key-bed rumors are true.

The only reason i would have to doubt anything major in a new line up, is the sheer amont of new releases Korg has done this year already with the new stage piano, PA1000 arranger, mid range Workstation Kross-2. Could Korg possibly be that busy as to have put out that much improvement and still have the best saved for NAMM? That would be prolific productivity on Korg's part, unmatched, the toyota of the synth world(in terms of product line output).

The only reason i have to think something big at NAMM, is they have saved nothing else to reveal at NAMM after already releasing so much.

What has Roland been doing? Is their stuff selling so well that they want to ride the tide down before sending in a new wave? Or are they waiting to see what every one else puts out before putting their's on the table?

I am not ready to get a new flagship Korg yet, so if they delay another year, it works for me, and even if they do bring it out a full year from now -I am still going to wait an extra full year to watch the commentary for how it all works out -stability-wise, before going in.

I am probably out of touch with complaints.

I think you are referring to the weighed RH3 keyboards, the 73 and 88.

Would not surprise me if Korg has different variations of the RH3, SV-1 vs Kronos.

Since I haven't read anything about defectives, you are referring to keyboard feel ? Thats quite a subjective topic, usually.
But a company has to get the keyboard feel 'right ' as this impacts sales.

I would think Korg would have perfected the RH3 with the GrandStage. I read some positive reports on its RH3.

In opinion Korg will release the successor of Promos

8 letter starting with P .... I would say POSEIDON (TRITON was a WS as well)

I STRONGLY HOPE that Korg avoids the mistake done from yamaha with the montage removing the full midi seq

I have seen that marketing hint. I don't believe it applies to a Kronos successor.

The P board is something else entirely different, IMO

I also think the Korg folks are very smart, way ahead of the game.

I hear what you are saying. That Korg has many models in play for the year. But that was planned last year for that stuff. the factory has production lines set to assemble them.

I don't believe this new product 'traffic ' inhibits launch of a new W/s or inhibits focus . A new W/s is planned some years in advance. Same with adding a production line for assembly- that is figured out some months in advance. its all in the planning.

Korg and Yamaha are friendly partners. Korg knew about Genos well in advance.
Korg is not a ' follower' . They don't need to mimic or copy what Yamaha does.
I am sure they like Yamahas good ideas. And vice versa.

and for that matter, our favorite keyboard players are not going to jump on the Genos. I don't believe the Genos is their gig. And keyboard players tend to follow what their favorite pro keyboard players have. we know most love and have a Kronos.

A new W/s would capture the imagination of long time Kronos owners. So that market share/sales potential is just sitting there. Very few Kronos owners will buy a Genos. I don't think that many Kronos owners bought a Montage , either.

So Korg has all the right cards, IMO. They can ride out the Kronos 2 for another year - its a good seller. Or they can roll the dice on a '3 ' or some type
very cool W/s, Flagship statement. I have given my #'s on the scenarios.

I think Korg is very smart. I don't believe they hang on every post on this forum. They are forward looking with products. Looking out 1-2 years. They know exactly whats out there. We are reacting to whats currently available.
And our personal wish list stuff.

That's like your wife buying you a new lawn mower.
Nice, functional, but uh...

As far as the new product releases are concerned there is zero competition at this moment for KORG's flagship, so I am not counting on another big step forward.
Although KORG comes up with surprises from time to time.
From Yamaha's side there is nothing to fear, they are too busy re-inventing themselves, spinning marketing yarns and promote it as the next big step forward.
But I am not so sure about Roland.
I got a feeling that they are slowly working towards bigger releases.

The KROME dates back to 2012, so a midrange refresh would make sense.
The same is true for the MOXF.

.....hmmmmm.... still hanging for a 76 semi-weighted KK....

Would jump at it - LS88 seems nice but I really don't need 88.

Here's hoping...

P Very Happy

- LOL. You are too literal. Its the thought that counts. Smile

I think if you look at Rolands recent products, they are cheerful and somewhat budget. They also like to re-hash into different sizes and combinations of existing products. Nothing wrong with that approach. Keep in mind they gave up on the Fantom X. Launching a super Fantom with todays spec seems opposite of their current product strategy. IMO, Roland is not on the radar.

That leaves us back to Korg. I have zero inside knowledge on any plans. They are quite good about keeping everything bottomed up.
