It seems the prices of these special editions are going down. Any idea why? Are they not as popular as anticipated? _________________ www.silhouetteband.nl |

In a look at eBay/US, a few days ago, there were 150 Kronos listed.
That might be hint of over supply or its simply a bunch of advertising.
I personally think Kronos , all models, is over priced. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Hello Greg, sorry but I don't agree with you on this point. Or, we could say some other units are over-over-over priced !
Just compare the Kronos with the Minimoog Model D for example. this one reaches 4000 $. Do you sincerily think it worths this price ? Now compare the possibilities of the two units, the huge sounds research possibilities of the Kronos.
When we buy a Minimoog, despite its qualities, do we know what is its real price and the price of the brand name ? I am rather sure we partly buy the name "Moog", a legend.
Of course, anybody would like the Kronos cheaper, included me ! But honestly, each day I'm using it I don't regret the money I gave. |

Thats ok. I don't expect many to agree with me.
My opinion might change if Korg did some WOW type free OS update.
The Mini Moog is more of an extreme comparison.
Its not even a workstation.
Do you think the Roland FA-08 work station is over priced ? _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I could have compared the Waldorf Quantum and the Minimoog. None is a workstation. They cost about the same price about 4,000 $. Just compare their characteristics. Here, we can really say one is over priced !
No, I wouldn't say the FA-08 is over priced. I suppose it worths the 1500 $ it costs. But I wouldn't pay more for this KB.
All depend on the money we get of course ! For example, can we say the Schmidt Synthesizer is over priced with its 20,000 $ ? Perhaps yes, perhaps no. One thing is sure : I can't afford it !! |

We could make a list of certain products or items that are 'over priced'.
I define 'over priced ' as something not having enough tangible value to justify the purchase price. This gets exaggerated more so when the quality is slipping.
Not related , but a fair example, is the cost of new housing here in CA. Folks pay outrageous amounts for a new home, but in many cases they are getting cheaper quality components inside the home. Such items are not visibly less quality until breakage/problems occurs in later years.
I had to digress. As buyers I think we need to be extremely careful on a high priced item. And to not assume. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

On topic again
Does anyone have an interest in the first place in gold or platinum editions? It's only about colour after all? Will their value be more steady on the second hand market later? Or quite the reverse? _________________ www.silhouetteband.nl |

I agree Greg.
Great keyboard but the Kronos is certainly not a bargain unless you can get a good one, pre owned. _________________ Korg Oasys 76, Korg Kronos 2 61, Korg Wavestation EX, Roland Jupiter X, 2 x Roland A800 Pro, Yamaha SY77, MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch Core i7 2.7GHz 16GB / 768GB, MainStage 3, Cymatic uTrack24, Samson S Patch, U-PHORIA UMC404HD Audio interface, Yamaha MG16XU mixer |

Okay, here's a direct comparison:
The Korg M1 WAS a workstation. It was the FIRST workstation. When it came out, the 61 key version (the only one available) was $1995.00.
Plugging that figure into the inflation calculator, we get this:
What cost $1995 in 1985 would cost $4510.96 in 2016.
So, in terms of the times, no, it ISN'T too expensive, it's actually cheaper comparatively, but I put that down to technology being cheaper.

Hi Joe, its a straw man , analytically.
I would focus on the past 6 years , not go back 30 yrs.
http://www.usinflationcalculator.com
Our US inflation rate over 6 years is low,, 9.7%
And a 30 yr cost of money calculation does not account for market forces on the pricing on Kronos.
And comparisons usually have flaws. Its never a perfect 1/1
Yes, all workstations are ' expensive '.
My assertion is that , after 6 yrs, Kronos is overpriced and that there is a bunch of margin available. If I were the Korg president and totally Kronos buyer oriented, I would:
A)drop the price
B) significantly invest in software development for a greater OS upgrade.
Everyone mostly appreciates the prior updates. But the last 1 or 2 were
not hugely significant. IMO
Oversupply in the market place would drive A. Only Korg knows that # today.
B could be going on. But we don't know.
I posted before that I don't know what
the Korg philosophy and strategy is. And how that impacts future of Kronos.
Most folks are not interested in the bigger picture. I think we should be
I think what Korg does ( or does not do) in Dec/Jan is significant to Kronos owners. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

this is your 2nd Kronos ? You will keep both ? Or sell the oldest Kronos ?
Hard to provide decent advice without having your context/plans _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I will do a theater tour and I am considering trading my old one (2011) for a new one with warranty. _________________ www.silhouetteband.nl |

I love the way they look. And there are a couple I see for about 2700.00 US. If I had the money I'd buy one. The KRONOS is still a great keyboard at a great price.
The Oasys was way more money with less to offer. As the forerunner to the KRONOS it never received the type of support, updates, or capability the KRONOS has and at a cheaper price point. It was a great keyboard but this keyboard has outdone any workstation in it's class by far and continues to do so.
If you're thinking of one, have the money, I'd say go for it! |

Is there anything not quite right with your 2011 ?
If there is something dodgy, and you have a traveling gig coming up, I can see why you would make a trade.
But if there is nothing materially wrong, I am inclined to keep and perform on what I know.
There is an assumption that ' newer ' is better. Thats not always the case with many items using tech.
Why is this ? Manufacturers do behind the scenes changes to save a few bucks or use different components. We can't see this- its all inside.
I have zero info that Korg is doing this. But just the same, making slight changes is not surprising.
Could very well be your 2011 Kronos is better made than a 2017.
I am convinced my 2011 is well made. It has performed flawlessly over 6 years.
Since mine is a solid keyboard, I would take mine on tour.
But you seem to have some reason to make a switch. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8
