When I try so save to a USB or SD card (but not to DISK) I get a message that I cant save because media is protected. I already tried going to global and unlocking the Factory Style/Sounds but that didn't help.... any suggestions?

On my 3x I have the option to Protect or Unprotect Media. Probably you have Protected it by mistake.
Plug in your USB, choose USB Drive bottom left, use drop-down menu (top right), select Unprotect and you should be OK to proceed.

.. option to Protect or Unprotect Media ..

Hello,
maybe I am wrong, but think Media-Protect of Pa3xle only is valid for internal memory “DISK [KORG DISK]” from writing.
*
The simplest mistake in case of writing with message "Media protected" maybe the sliding switch of sd-cards is switched to "protect" instead of "unprotect".
*
SD-Cards often are flawed for various reasons. Therefore for important data always one should do a second backup.

Next, as mentioned in manual :
"Regular care is recommended with your devices. Defragmenting and repairing internal devices can be made with any computer utility while the your Korg Pa-Keyboard is connected via USB. Important ---> Do not remove a device or move the instrument while the device is operating."
*
Not mentioned in manual - more options that causes an SD-Card to go corrupt files or file-system:
Firmware (like OS in cardreaders) can make mistakes but most obvious is that you can mess things up if you pull out the card while trying to write to it. With caching that can happen quite a while after you think the data transfer is done.

Bugs also could happen in deleting files or if the card fills up and also it is possible that bad cables, bad USB ports or problems in a PC could corrupt files on transfer.

In all of these cases the card itself is fine — reformat it and you can use it again.
*
If your SD-Card have bad blocks, then your SD-Card really was going corrupt.
In order to produce small, cheap, high-capacity devices manufacturers ship devices with something at least 5% of memory already is bad. This initial bad blocks are masked out and initially have no negativ effect - but have a long-term effect!
An integrated error correction controller prevents data from being corrupted but sometimes a card do not have enough free capacity to cover bad blocks - so an error occurs.
*
If your card is faulty (locked, write protected) - if you have no second backup of your data but it is important to get them:
How to remove write protection and to fix a write protected drive can be done in some ways - you can find different resources in www:
