Seriously, I think we won't see anything groundbreaking at Korg's Namm booth this year. And if you think about it, it makes perfectly sense.
Here's why: I already mentioned elsewhere, it's only two years til 2020, til a new decade, and therefor a new (product)cycle begins. Someone mentioned Kronos would be the workstation of the decade. Strategically it's the best Korg can do. There's no need to rush for them. By 2020 they've had 9 years (since Kronos) for the development of something truly... (I leave the rest to your imagination). |

It woud be very nice from Korg to finally step away from EDS (or how it is called) sound engine. I really dont like it since M3. _________________ Gear: roland Juno-G, korg x5dr, Monologue, e-mu 0404

They did with the Kronos.. which has the HD engine
Also residing in the grand stage and its organy little red brother..
And the engine is now called EDS-X works quite well for me in the PA4x, with added DNC functionallity it offers quite some things the HD-1 engine on the Kronos does not.. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

Why drop EDS?
It works pretty well, it's adequate for rompler work, and it's well-understood. It worked so well for years that it's not hard to roll into more modern, efficient hardware.
What would you replace it with? Physical modelling? |

I don't think a ' number ' or a date is the circumstance or determination of a new product cycle.
I agree as each day ticks by, its increasingly unlikely Korg will do any big bang workstation.
No one knows Korgs 2018 strategy today except Korg. At NAMM, it will become more clear what their product thinking is for 2018. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Of Course, a date or the beginning of a new decade is not a prerequisite for the beginning of a new product cycle. But if you think about it, it makes more sense to combine/implement a paradigm shift in technology (64 bit OS, better DAW Integration, etc.) with a symbolic turn (e.g. the beginning of a new decade). |

not trying to be so nit picky.
better DAW and 64 bit is not big tech news . Paradigm s**t ?
If I was president of Korg, that would have been available 1-2 yrs ago. At this point , Korg is playing catch up.
By 2020, both requirements will seem ancient. IMO. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

But not in a keyboard workstation or actual "hardware" Instrument for that matter. |

No one can really predict if Korg will spend the money.
we don't know the actual cost of a full fledged W/s + the Linux Programming.
We can guess at the component cost. But the other important pieces are not known. I would guess new programming is expensive.
64 bit and DAW integration are only 2 pieces of the puzzle to solve.
I am not waiting around until 2020 or never.
Apparently cross platforming is the best approach to attempt to get the best of both worlds. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I might be the odd guy out but I think if Korg did release something there is a better chance of it being a vst/au Kronos package or ios product than a new workstation to rival or surpass the Kronos. |

Why would that be? Considering the complexity of something like the Kronos it comes close to creating your own DAW and given the fact that Korg still creates revenue for the most part with selling hardware components (usually combined in a hardware instrument, that is).

Well this is what most people did for the last 5 years or so (since 64bit is an actual reality). But as we know, no one needed the Kronos or even the Oasys back in 2005 to be able to play and create music in 32bit.

This, of course, is very true and I hope they don't leave it at that, if they ever come out with a Kronos successor. |

I checked the news for Korg US and Korg Japan. Nothing similar and no news. so far.
Nice 50 yr recap. Appears to be country distributor specific. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8
