I'm excited that korg, has managed to fit an RH3 in such a compact light weight portable keyboard.

My question is, how would the playing experience, compare with a kronos 88 or 73, if the D1 was connected to a kronos 61 key by midi?

I appreciate there's probably lots of users that use weighted actions, with the kronos 61.

I'm just curious, when using midi between a D1 and a kronos 61 key, whether the 127 velocity steps would provide the same playing feel, as playing the kronos 88.

If so, this would seem an ideal combination, providing a lighter alternative to using a kronos 88 on its own.

Impossible to tell without trying it, but if the new D1 uses similar velocity curves than in the Kronos-2 88 or 73, I would suppose the feel and response would be very close. And as you probably know, in the Kronos you can vary (what they call) the PostMIDI parameter for that purpose.

Finally, for studio, it would be easy to make the D1 behave exactly as you want with a little MIDI converter freeware such as MIDI-OX.

The RH3 keybed is decent, and suits quite a few folks' playing styles. The D1 doesn't have aftertouch, though this shouldn't matter for piano playing. The Kronos 61 will, of course respond to the full 88 keys of the D1, provided the Programs and Combis are configured for the full range. The Kronos sound engines respond to 127 different velocities, whether from it's own keybed, or from an external MIDI source, so that shouldn't be an issue, and MIDI lag is very short, so the playing experience should be good.

Thanks KK & voip, at least you have got the point I was trying to get across in my original post.

Im interested in using the D1 solely as a controller. The 30 sounds, would be a bonus for practicing etc.
