Does anyone know what the gold coloured electronic component is that is soldered between the live and neutral pins and also why is it there?

Is the component a gold-coloured/plated metal part or a yellow coloured component?

The most likely device to be placed in this position in a circuit is an X-capacitor, and is fitted to reduce the amount of radio interference created by the pedal unit and to filter incoming interference, including lightning surges.
