I went back and rebuilt all my programs from scratch so that there would be no unnecessary junk there, then created another Set List. The other day during a live set (no sequencing) I had the setting on PIANO and was getting ready to start the song when it crashed. Anyone have any suggestions??

hope this is not a big hassle.

A google search will show this scenario occurring and posted about every week here. All with a dozen trouble shooting steps and tips

You should also clarify if your K is new, old, more history. How full is your SSD and have you modded your K.

What OS version you have would also be a good idea to include. If you haven't did you try updating to the latest OS?

My Kronos is a first generation unit and I am using the latest OS.

I have edited the Factory Programs and Combis to include these sounds in my SET LIST:

KRS-04 Pro Splits and Layers
KRS-35 OASYS HD-1 Dreams
EXS-92 Atmospheric

In the subject line you say
"...ask for reboot frequently"
Are the conditions identical every time, that is you say you were on piano and it happened. Does it happen from any other mode, Combi, program, Etc. And how frequently? Anytime you are using the Kronos?

Yes, I do play live but I rarely MOVE the Kronos. it usually stays in a climate controlled room.

The conditions differ every time it shuts down. My Set List includes mostly Combis. The last time it shut down it was in a Combo mode with the German Grand as the first layer. Shut downs do usually occur after it has been on for a while, though.

I do not have a UPS. No one else on the stage has ever had power surge issues, though.

I have the 1st Gen K, an 88.

1) sounds like heat build up inside the chassis. Check if the surface around the LCD feels extra warm.

2) makes no diff about others. The K is touchy about consistent power.
A UPS plus a battery backup is highly recommended. It could save your K, one day, prevent a surge.

I think you should seriously consider using a UPS. Just because “no one else on stage has had any power surge issues” doesn’t mean you’re OK. They are not playing a Kronos. A small UPS unit is not terribly expensive.

As for what mode you’re in on shut down should NOT make any difference IMO.

Sorry Greg, I guess we were responding at the same time.

So, is there a UPS you could recommend? They come in many VA/W configurations.

I've been using this one for about 3 years. Replaced the battery once. There are many to pick from.

Open it and reseat the memory module(s) and re-tight all cables connections. Some will get loose over time.

I agree with Drummond. Also try disconnecting any peripherals you have, such as USB devices and maybe even all of your control pedals if you are using any. Try to boot up in the simplest configuration you can and then work from there.

THANKS for the UPS recommendation and the advice on reseating the memory. I'm sure I can find directions for reseating the memory somewhere! I'll let you know how it goes.

If you have ever done it on a PC, it is pretty much the same. If you don't have any computer experience, search YouTube and I'm sure you can find something.
