Can anyone explain the XY pad on the Nanopad and how it works with Kronos?

It seems to "do stuff" on pretty much every patch. I'm not sure what exactly it does. Is it a unique controller or a duplicate of something else (e.g. vector joystick?)

Is it 2 or 4 axes?

Does it retain the position at which you lift your finger off?

Where is zero? In the center? Bottom left?

It seems like a useful tool but I'm struggling to get my head around it. It seems like once you touch it's difficult to get back to the base patch without reloading it.
