Is it my imagination, or does the right top of the keyboard say 8DIO? As in the creators of many kontakt libraries?

The layout looks like the prophet 12, but instead of 4 oscilators, the mixer says : instrument 1, 2 Oscilator 1, 2..

It could be something really new...

Yep, that's 8DIO, the company which has made a lot of Kontakt libraries.
This combination of Dave Smith and 8DIO makes me very curious what this synth has onboard.

Actually, I'm surprised that this kind of collaboration hasn't happened more often: one company specialized in developing high quality content, the other experienced in making the hardware to run it.
Both can benefit from it and neither of them have to reinvent the wheel from scratch.
Maybe it's time for Roland to contact Eric Persing?

Dave Smith often works with others, like last year with pioneer..

But i do agree, why doesn’t this happen more? Integration between hardware and software seems the one thing most people are on the watch for..

Well Roland needs to now replace their version of the Rompler/Synth hybrid the JDXA with something a bit more finished and complete, as this is a perfect replacement for that.

This is one heck of an impressive synth, and I certainly did not expect something like this from DSI.
On the site of 8DIO there's more information about the specifics and short demos of the sounds (which display a lot of character).
Apparently it's an expandable synth which also will (by December) allow samples created by users to be loaded into it.
On DSI's site there's also more info about this new synth.
