Dear Kronos users,

I'd like to automatically have the right hand timbre change in a keyboard split while playing along while in sequence mode by using a MIDI Event Edit in the track edit. At measure 70 I'd like to have my right hand switch to a jazz guitar instead of piano, then back to piano again at measure 103. In other words, full 88 keys of grand piano until measure 70, then the same piano from G4 and below and jazz guitar above that note in a keyboard split from measure 70 to 103. Then go back to full 88 keys of piano at measure 103. Is this possible and if so how would I do this.

I've tried over and over a variety of ways but can't get it right.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Respectfully,

Gaston

I think 1 way of saying this is while in SEQ mode, you want measure 70 of the Song switch from one Midi track to a different Midi Track. IOW you want to automate a change of instruments .

I vaguely recall one can switch Programs while on a Midi track. I believe it has to be recorded to do that. Mike Conway has several excellent YouTubes that get into this.

You can google for more specifics. Or clarify back what your context is.

In general, use two slots to create a split. Put your piano sound in both slots. Then, have a program change inserted in the track for the right hand that changes it to the jazz guitar, and then back. The left side stays the same.

GregC and geoelectro thanks so much. This has been a problem for me for a long time and something I really need to use. I figured it out today. Basically it goes like this:

I've imported my backing tracks as audio files and when I play along with them in song mode I've been needing the sounds (programs) to change automatically at specific measures. Keyboard splits have been problematic because making one Midi Event Edit changes both programs above and below the split point when ideally I just want the right hand to switch to a jazz guitar (for example) instead of piano throughout and keep the piano comping in the left hand. After setting up the split and Midi Event Edits at the specific measures, I went into Midi Filter Zones deselected the Enable Program Change for the piano program split section. That way when the Midi Event Edit changes to guitar in the upper split it won't change the program of the piano timbre of the lower split. My guess is this will work the same for layered combis to add dimensions to the sounds I'll be using while performing live to sequences in playback. My world has suddenly changed in a big, big way. I've been playing this Kronos 88 for ten years, recording and live both and still finding ways to accomplish new dimensions and approaches to sound design. Maybe this information will be helpful to others who want to have their programs change automatically while playing instead of hitting different slots on the fly.

Thanks again for your prompt responses to my question and have a really great day!

Respectfully,
Gaston

just an idea- organize your fav programs in a user bank.

hook up your foot switch pedal and assign program change UP in global/controller

in SEQ or Song, have Midi channel set to your 1st Program in the user bank.

Press your foot switch at measure 70 while in Midi channel 1.

Might be old school clunky , have limited FX. And its not automated, of course

GregC, that's a great idea too! I'll try it. I've been using my switch pedal to control rotary speaker speed but I'm definitely gonna try that. Thank you!

Hope it works. I like having 3 pedals- the Korg sustain, expression and switch.

Are you using the joystick for rotary speed control?

I use my expression pedal for the Joystick cc values.

Hands on the keys
