hello

I owned an MKIII for many years and now I switched to a korg odyssey.

how do you sync the sample & hold clock to a volca style sync output?
my goal is to send with CV/gate a simple 16th note sequence to the odyssey:
pitch stays steady but s&H modulates the filter, changing value on each 16th step.

- LFO rate won't change according to the incoming sync
- KYBD TRIG works only if I phisically press a key on the instrument,
no matter if in the meanwhile I m sending a 16th note sync pulse to the TRIG IN.
tried also sending sync to the GATE IN with no success..

on the original MKIII clocked sample & hold modulations were easy to achieve:
I just had to plug a 16th sync out of a volca or such into TRIG IN
and the sample & hold generator snapped a new value for each incoming sync pulse.
I sadly can't reproduce the same behavior on the korg odyssey Sad

am I missing something here? thanks!

hello rodion77

I've made a few tests and like you could not get expected results. It seems Korg Odyssey, following its size, is only 86% compatible with the original. Wink

More seriously... this function is on the edge between digital and analog parts of the synth, therefore more susceptible to compatibility issues. Don't hesitate to ask Korg about it, they might have a solution.

Regards
Michał

thanks a lot for your reply!

but how do I contact korg for such a technical issue? it seems to me that this forum is the only way to get help: I looked a bit around and I dont find any other support option than bringing the odyssey to the local distributor. which is usually pretty pointless, especially here in mexico..

Give them a chance. You don't loose anything by sending an email to your country distributor. If the issue is known they may suggest a workaround.

Forum is ok too, you can get support any time, but obviously as a user-to-user service it has its limitations. Another good point is that it is freely accessible, so I'm sure Korg would be happy to see your positive comment regarding support they offer. Wink

I have to admit that I had the same problem, along with LFO mis-triggering of the envelope generators. It seems to be a problem with the keyboard electronics (internal MIDI to CV converter).

It COULD be fixed with a modification, via a switch on the Trig In, to bypass the MIDI electronics and inject the trigger signal directly to the S&H/LFO re-trigger, but I'd wait for the warranty to run out first.
