any more mod possibilities on Volca Bass ?
we've seen VCA Level (looks tricky), and FilterFM(also).
what about CV inputs straight to pot leg (have control
over cutoff and resonance) or things to do with waveform
outputs?
a switch, to invert VCF EG ? possible?
(same question for Keys)
any way of having square waves for 'poly' mode? |

c'mon!
more mods for Volca Bass ! there must be more stuff
we can do to it ...
1/
would really like to have the indiv osc level control. i don't
think the hack points have been shared for that. looks like it's
a bit of hassle.
2/
something that could be simple is VCF envelope invert ?
a little switch, redirect the envelope signal via an inverter?
3/
it receive velocity to amplitude. what if the velocity voltage
could be sent to VCF? another switch.
4/
would really like to figure out oscillator sync. schematic
seems to suggest it might be possible.
anyone into this? |

right here's the latest fantasy idea:
Volca Keys:
how does the send to the delay fx work?
or rather, the return?
what if an insert point was made here, making
'feedback' an 'amount' control? .... that seems
to be what it is, bringing back the delay signal
into the mix path.
'send' is probably a fixed amount. so it's probably
a delay volume control. or both?
maybe not worth thinking about when you can just
send the whole signal to an external processor.
------------------------------------
has anyone done any interesting mods to the Keys that
they can share? |

Nice idea for the delay feedback.
Super monotron delay.
Throw in the envelope invert an osc sync too. |

must've been a bit tired, because i missed
the whole point of my post
it was prompted by that noisy delay, and
wondering if some other effect could be
inserted there - say, if it could go out to
an fx box/pedal, and then come back in.
doh but that a bit pointless ...
but something could go there.
although: it's not too clear how that delay
is generated. Time is fully under digital
control, so is feedback. so is it all in a chip?
i have a feeling we should be thinking about
pot pins as points into the circuit. what happens
if you make a jack insert direct into the signal path
there?
yes i'm keen to find out if vcf env invert is possible,
for Keys and Bass.
i'm drilling into the back of both of them today to fit
a few minijacks anyway. take my time nice neat job,
get that out of the way. not sure whether to do MIDI
on mini-TRS. think it's the easiest way. easier to mod
a cable than fit a fragile fullsize DIN in the top. |

okay so i didn't do the drilling yet, i flaked out.
still planning something though, and the new modular
gave me an idea: look at the Tinysizer, it uses what
look like ribbon cable headers ...
random picture here:
https://palmsounds.net/2013/06/22/rare-tinsizer-mini-modular-synth-on-ebay/
so: no point in just drilling 6 holes and wasting 6 minijacks with
no obvious purpose - why not create an interface on the back,
with a ribbon header - you get different sizes, and ribbons are
everywhere - chop one down if need be. so you have an output
section, and an input section, and do a bit of sniffing to find things
that work - like sending an oscillator onto the leg of a pot or
something. - thinking about getting more out of the Bass, principally,
i think it needs help more than the others. |

right here's my idea: (inspired by forthcoming Modular)
nb: this is just a theory at the moment.
drill ONE minijack, and then have a small multicable header poking through
the chassis at the back (not sure how yet).
all pcb output points go to the ribbon, and then the mnijack signal has its own
point - then use a small jumper wire to make the temporary connection, on
the outside, at the back.
i don't really see these as being very useful, tbh, having tapped a non-drum
signal on the vBeats - ringmod: it's just a sustained gate-on with no shaping.
other than that, i'm just doing midi out on minijack as TRS midi. (don't fancy
drilling a hole in the top for DIN at this point)
but here's the thing: all this notion of sticking minijack sockets on the
was BS really: there isn't enough height to put a standard cheap plastic
case minijack socket: it's a nightmare dremelling some extra space in the
case, and shaving down the plastic case of the minijack. so don't get
those ones. the 'tube' shaped ones look better (more expensive).
but whatever it's done now... |
