Is important to clarify that the Pa4X DM3725 single core ARM has a C64+ DSP core with 8 independent units but the C66x DSP is a step forward. The TI AM5728 can be a great new processor for the new Pa5X with following features at only 40 dollars :
Dual ARM®Cortex®-A15 Microprocessor Subsystem
Up to 2 C66x Floating-Point VLIW DSP
Fully Object-Code Compatible With C67x and C64x+ DSPs
Up to Thirty-two 16 × 16-Bit Fixed-Point Multiplies per Cycle
Up to 2.5MB of On-Chip L3 RAM
Because is compatible with C64+ DSP code is the right choice for an upgrade. Also the built in HDMI interface and WIFI to export the screen and audio to other devices are requirement yes or yes for a flagship arranger. _________________ Please check my Facebook page and blog at

Why?
The Cortex a-15 with added dsp cores outperforms the Atom by several miles...
The Atom and other intel processors are highly unsuited for dsp processing..
A good example for this is the rolamd cloud series..
Where acb synths work rather flawlesly on low end dsp cores..
They become a processor hog on the intel processors that are much faster..
When korg build the Oasys, the mobile processors where lagging the desktop intel processors by a huge amount... but the latest cortex processors cought up a huge chunck, and with the added dsp power, they surpass the intel low end range for these tasks...
The power of the dsp cores is that they can do quite a lot of parallel processing, they consist of many small pipelines... where the intel cores still can do only 1 thing at a time (altough the atom might have 2 cores these days).
Maybe thats the reason we have seen no further development of the Kronos, tey might need to port it all back to arm amd dsp?
Back to the pa arrangers, if they still use the omap structure of old ti processors... which is slowly getting obsolete, korg also needs to port the whole pa engine to the newer cores... this might take a lot of time(we all know the korg development team is rather small) so it might take anfew more years before we see a pa5x... or even rather a new korg totl arranger with a different name... _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

absolutely none
and since the pa4x is on par with the Genos, there is no reason for Korg to push out a Pa5x earlier then intended.. even better, they have room to delay... _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

Indeed, as I said "... there are no rumours about any new Korg arranger......"
Can't imagine that the Genos has given Korg any ideas - not really anything to compete with so, as you say, no pressure now.... _________________ PA4X-76, Karma, WaveDrum GE, Fantom 8 EX

Who needs a new arranger? I have had my Pa4X for two years now and barely scratched the surface. _________________ Korg Pa4X (OS NEXT 3.1.0)

|
|
Hi guys,
I was thinking of buying another arranger keyboard and found it difficult to choose beteween the Genos V2 and Pa4X. Can some of you who perhaps already bought one of these keyboards help me with my choice? I haven't put my hands on any one of them so its more difficult to select and any of you who already owns one might give me a hand. For example are the keys touch of the Korg better then the Yamahas?
Thanks for any help... |

Welcome
If you search Genos on this forum you will find a lot of posts on the Yamaha.
There are plenty of online comparisons

I would suggest watching all the tutorial videos on both keyboards to learn as much as you can about them before going to a music store to try them back to back.
There are pros and cons of each and it is what suits you that matters.

Welcome to Korg forums
You will get Korg-biased answers on this forum and Yamaha-biased answers on the Yamaha forum.
It all comes down to your personal needs and how you perceive the sounds, styles and features.
I can give you several reasons why I wouldn't buy a Genos - real solid ones and a few subjective ones.
Get into the manuals and your retailer and try them out.
If you really want my "list" I'll send it to you in a PM (Private Message) - let me know.
Cheers

The keys on the Genos have a lighter touch than the 4X. I prefer the lighter touch. "BETTER" is very subjective. If you are primarily a piano player, you'll like the Korg keys better.
The Genos has a myriad of "new" features, that Korg has had for a long time. However some of those features are implemented better on the Genos.
If you have specific questions, I'll try to answer, as I have both keyboards.
No one can tell you what is best for you though. _________________ DonM |

For anyone that wants richer sound, more polyphony, etc, now do what I did. Buy a smoking hot PC clocking at 4 Ghz or more, 32 gigabytes of memory minimum, a good Audio Interface, and build a PA4x compatible library you can load into RAM. I've got everything running out of memory with sub 5 msec latency. You'd be amazed what can be done with a PA4x, 16 Channels of usb MIDI and a large library of VST Instruments. Now I'm never out of date, only time. _________________ PA4x, PA500, NI Komplete Kontrol S88 MK2, Sonar Platinum, Ableton Live 10 Standard, NI Komplete12 Ultimate, EWQL Libraries, Nektar Impact LX88, Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 Gen2, Studiologic MP-117 Pedalboard |

Korg Pa4X drums familly:
this function is available in STYLE play, Song play, Seguencer.
I know GENOS has it.
Question 1 is: Is this feature also available in style editing? edit midi song?
question 2 is: these settings genos put in style? to midi songs? |

I still think there is room for improvement on the Pa4x. I would like to see
* a more visually appealing UI
* New / updated Samples / Voices (they increased memory but never released any Sound packs???)
* Vocal Harmony tracking and Score display for MP3 / WAV tracks ( ala Yamaha Chord Tracker)
* Freeplay styles
* More powerful Looper / Chord Sequencer
This is just a start _________________ Pa5x, Yamaha Genos, ForeScore |
