Hi All, Brand new to the Forum, this is my first post, I work as a drummer on a cruise ship, so Im posting this on behalf of our Keyboard player (who isn't too Tech Savvy) We have recently been given a Krome workstation to use for live performance, its got some great sounds and its obviously a very powerful tool, but we are having issues switching between sounds live, and its causing big gaps between songs and such. Is there a way too (For example) start a song with a Piano, and quickly switch to a brass or a pad instrument quickly without having to punch the numbers in on the keypad?, if anyone can tell me how todo it, ill be able to work it out and show our keyboard player, and if you could put it in real Laymans terms too that would be super awesome of you!

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but can't find anything specific towards the Krome Workstation on here.

Thanks Guys, Paul Very Happy

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully the cruise ship has a good enough satellite internet connection to be able to use the forum whilst sailing the oceans.

Copying the Programs of relevance to an unused bank i.e. one where the Programs are all called Init Program, in the order in which they are used in the setlist, would be one way. The Program up button would be all that is necessary to change to the next sound without fiddling around. It is also possible to set up the footswitch input to do the same thing. Be aware, though, that the Krome doesn't do smooth sound transitions, so the sound being played will be cut off when the next one is selected. You'll need to consider trying to get something like the Kronos if smooth sound transitions are required.

With this custom Program bank, it is possible to navigate quickly to Programs that are not stored in adjacent locations in the bank. From the Program play screen, tapping on the small arrow "button" to the left of the Program name, brings up a list of the current Program, together with 15 other Programs in the current bank, allowing Programs to be selected from that list by tapping on them. The Program will play as soon as it is selected. There is no need to hit OK, though pressing the onscreen Cancel button, or the keyboard's Exit button, will revert back to the previous sound, which can actually be quite useful, whilst OK will select that Program and go to the Program home screen. There is a scroll bar at the bottom of the list screen, allowing the viewing window to be scrolled to the other Programs in that bank. There are tabs to the left of that window, allowing selection of other Banks. Use the Exit button to get out of this screen. Pressing Exit repeatedly should get the user back to the familiar home or main screen for Programs or Combis.

Another way would be to have Combis, each containing several Programs of interest, again copied to empty banks in the order that they are required. When using a Combi, it is possible to Mute and unMute individual Programs using the touchscreen, through use of the "Play" onscreen buttons.

Presumably there's an existing keyboard that could continue to be used, via a mixer, allowing both to be employed, which would give the keyboard player a degree of flexibility, and a backup instrument.

The Krome is an extremely versatile keyboard and, soundswise, better than most. As with all things technical, it should be possible, over time, to build up a degree of familiarity navigating the Krome.

Hey Paul,

Check out this video which gives life to voip's excellent explanation of how to use program mode to solve your problem and the touchscreen to navigate around the Krome. It is very fast and easy once you get acclimatised.

The ability to quickly use the touchscreen to navigate the instrument is what sets this keyboard above all others at this price point, IMO. Once your KB player is used to it, he won't want to go back to pressing buttons ever again.

Hi Paul,

I've been using my Krome 61 on live gigs for about 4 years now and after a lot of experimentation I've found that a good way to do it is to use Sequencer Mode.

Set up each song you play as a different Sequence (name each Sequence with the song name,) with the different programs (sounds) you want to use on each track. Once set up, you can easily switch between songs by leaving the cursor on the Sequence (Song) name and using the Inc/Dec buttons or the Jog wheel.

Once set to a particular Sequence (Song), there are many ways to select the proper sounds on each track. For example, you can split/layer the keyboard, you can manually select different tracks, or you can use RPPR patterns to toggle some tracks on and others off (this is harder and requires some knowledge of MIDI.) Also, if there are some riffs you want to program in to make sure they are played "perfectly" you can do so as part of the Sequence (which you can't do in a Combi.)

It sounds a bit complicated but once set up it's a very powerful way of working. That being said, I wish the Krome designers had included a few extra buttons to make this process easier.
