After a couple years of going back and forth on whether I really NEED a Kronos, or if my current rig is just fine (it is) I decided to go for it anyway. Tomorrow my 88 key K2 will be arriving from Sweetwater, a B stock that I got a nice deal on.

So.... what are the 1st things I should do once I get it? I'll check the operating system level and make sure it's the newest. What else should I look for?

My goal is to have this take over the duties of my Roland FA08 in 2 of my projects. One is a dance/party band and the other is a Pink Floyd tribute, where I'll need to trigger 1 shot samples of sound effects, a little bit of sequencing on a couple tunes, and generally use some pretty extensive splits and layers.

The rest of my rig is a Nord Electro 5D, and I also have a Nord Lead A1 that I use in the PF band. I'm hoping I can eliminate the A1 in the Floyd band, and depending on how I can adapt to playing organ on the weighted action, possibly streamline my party band rig down to the Kronos alone.

If you have concerns about it being b stock, I suppose test all the I/O. You bought from sweetwater though so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about if you discover a problem later.

For me, first thing was to go through the programs and be amazed at just how detailed they all are. Many of them have all of the controllers connected to something meaningful and you can completely transform the sound without ever engaging in what I’d call programming.

Learn the hardware controls and how to switch between the various modes. They make it much more fun to use.
