First, hello, I'm new and am mostly a bassist, so speak slowly and use small words if you can.

What I want to do is take a WIndows PC and use this to input notes, chords, etc and then connect via MIDI to my Krome to have it generate sound. This seems straightforward to ME, but then I'm a bassist.

I know the Krome has a sequencer. I used to be proficient with the M1 and O1/fwd machines, but the Krome seems a bit unwieldy for my use. Not Roland unwieldy, but still. I know I should dig in and learn the onboard sequencer but I'm always looking for an easier way to do things - and shorter learning curves.

The easier, the better. Any ideas? If you don't understand what I mean, say so and I'll try to explain it better.

thanks in advance!

Jack

Small words, gotcha!

First question:

Yes, you can (with the right software, and interface) connect a Windows (or other) PC to a Krome and have the Krome act as a sound module. You'll want to use an audio interface with MIDI connection to connect your computer's MIDI signals to the MIDI IN port of the Krome.

USB audio interfaces that will do this include all the usual suspects. Just check that it has a MIDI OUT port.

Any software that does MIDI sequencing and will play with your audio interface should do fine. Again, all the big names should (and quite a few small names as well). You don't say what you use, but I know that things like Ableton Live can.

As regards the Krome sequencer: it's actually easier than you think.

You can enter notes one at a time.

You can play directly, and record in.

You can use the touchscreen for note entry (or more likely, note tweaking).

See if you can find a Krome user near you, or even bribe a music shop clerk with KORG experience to guide you for an afternoon.
