Yes i agree
you can "Personalize" a preset and make it your own
which is what most company programers spend all day doing, before selling on.
If you cant "Differentiate" the omnisphere "SOUND"
from any other high-end-synth,then you might have a problem.
Can kronos create the same/similar sounds as omnisphere ?
Can Anyone "IDENTIFY this 40 second sample, and say for sure, that its
1. The Kronos, or the
2. omnisphere
If you cant, tell the defference then what does that mean ?

My gig rig is based around a Kronos and Montage in the hardware dept (and I still have my trusty Nord G2 Engine in the rig as well), and in my gig rack I have an i7 NUC PC (about the size of a paperback book), with 500GB SSD and 32 GB RAM which can run all the heavy weight soft synths like DIVA and Omnisphere. I use Top Ten Software Cantabile as a VST host amonst all the other things it does (it is my MIDI router/processor in the rig as well)
Omnipshere and Kronos complement each other nicely. I wouldn't be without either. _________________ Derek Cook - Java Developer

The Kronos is a brilliant all rounder. It gives you every type of sound you need and of course sampling and a rock solid sequencer.
but I answered no.
If you want to play with sound, then it can't possibly tick every box.
I actually prefer the Waldorf Blofelds sound and filters, I love Garagebands Alchemy, I prefer iSymphony's orchestral sounds and theres many more soft synth analogue clones that are better than the Kronos.
Omnisphere gives you limitless possibilities.
but as a hardware workstation, the Kronos does tick every box. _________________ https://m.youtube.com/user/1967runningman |

Hi
My kronos 88 is heavy as hell.
Omnisphere 2 fits in my mobile rack computer (IU) running cantabile as a host.
Per kilo i get more out of omnisphere and the other plugs i use especialy when Keyscape and komplete are loaded.
I find that kronos pionos are good especialy the Berlin And German grand but the keyskape pianos are better.
The kronos allso works fine as a controler and i do use allot of the sounds.
The 9 engines on kronos are Great but in my opinion there is next to nothing there that cant be found on Vst,s
I love my kronos the sounds are very good for a workstation.
I have never thought about comparing them ,but for me its all about the power to weight ratio.

The thing that always comes back for me, is latency.. Is it feasible to get a reliable setup that has low latency response to keyboard playing? In my experience, it is not. Hence I've gone for hardware synths only.

In my opinion, I think so. You need to do some tweaking of the Windows OS to achieve it, but I run below 10ms latency with between 10%-50% load depending on the VSTs I am using. The upper 50% load end includes DIVA, which is a known resource hog. _________________ Derek Cook - Java Developer

when i use the Kronos i have both..
The Kronos is a near perfect master keyboard for my needs..
And just connecting it to my mac/mainstage..
Gives me access to omnisphere and much more
Both have their strengths..
But in general espescially when combined with the keyscape pack. Omnisphere is hugely powerfull in a single engine.. There is quite a lot of things it can do that are not on the Kronos..
The Kronos soundengines however have other strengths
Its much more suited for live playing...
It offers Karma and many other tools..
The FM part of Kronos is much more straightforward
etc etc etc...
the kronos is the heart of the system...
Omnisphere (and others add depth and verstallity...
To me Kronos is mostly the perfect masterkeyboard
That comes with a huge amount of onboard tools and sounds.. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

well it's 2018
in my situation the latency is around 4 ms and i have over 180 hardware knobs to use with softsynths (2 ableton pushcontrollers and a native intruments komplete masterkeyboard and multiple midi controllers and 2 ipads acting as touchscreen controllers for synths and daw in my setup), so if you really want to have the same experience as on a hardware synth it is absolutely no problem nowadays. But i have to admit that such a setup is not cheap, it much more expensive then a kronos, but if you really want it is possible. |

Hi
latencey is not a problem as long as you use a good Soundcard and do the right windows Tweeks.
I run my Rig vsts through an an RME HDSPE AIO PCI Express card.
No latency problems .

I have had Omnisphere. I pulled it out !
With a Kronos you can build songs. With Omnisphere it's only sounds for the sake of it. And there are so many more interesting VSTi _________________ trees are going fast.

Can Kronos sound like Omnisphere? Can Omnisphere sound like Kronos? They are different instruments, so they will never sound the same (any instrument can't sound exactly the same as other instrument). Not sure why people keep the comparisons.
They are just instruments...with enough time to program them, they will go wherever you need to go and will get the job done despite their differences.

I owned Omnisphere before the Kronos. Omnisphere is an amazing synth. The analog emulation is top notch. Another strength is the unusual sample set. They took instruments and objects playing them with a bow or hammering them. It includes a ton of analog samples from famous synths. I used it live for nearly 2 years. However, I bought the K61 in 2012 because my gig needed portability and ease of setup. The K61 gives me what I need. Some of the Omnisphere sounds I was used to using I sampled into the Kronos. Now my gig changed again so no moving. I have considered bringing Omni back but frankly I like the simplicity of just the Kronos. I use Omni as a sound source and sample it if needed. I wish I had more time to play with Omni because it just sounds so Good!
But, I got the best keyboard...

Omnisphere is great but the stock patches compared to Kronos are not any better.
For me, the power of Omnsiphere lies in the expansions like Keyscape creative(but then you need Keyscape for that), that for me alone is worth investing in it.
Having said that, i find myself laying ideas into reality much faster on the Kronos/DAW than on Omnsiphere/DAW. _________________ A preview of my upcoming solo piano album: https://youtu.be/Cj9a_xATx-g |

Here's an interesting observation, made whilst playing Omnisphere 2.5's Phoenix Rising patch together with the Kronos Program Lost in an Ion Storm, with the mixer set to give roughly equal volumes, and kept there. After a few minutes of exploring the rich resultant sonic space, evolved using Kronos' control surface, the fader on the Omnisphere audio was turned down and, rather surprisingly, produced relatively little impact on the overall sound. Kronos was doing the heavy lifting!
By way of an update, repeating the exercise a number times resulted in the Kronos clearly being the main sound about 30-40% of the time, and at least an equal for the remaining occasions. Both sound sources vary in volume during play, leading to varying degrees of auditory masking.
Kronos and Omnisphere together sound better than either alone. A personal opinion, only, of course. |
