Hi
Just wanted to share that I was able to successfully import styles and program sounds to the EK-50. I was pleasantly surprised that you can add sounds because I never saw the feature advertised. You need to upgrade the firmware to 2.1. It supports styles/sounds for PA50 and microArranger. A lot but not all of the stuff on the following pages worked.

http://www.korgforums.com/support/pa80.htm
https://www.korg.com/uk/features/arrangers/bonusware/

The sounds/styles were imported via USB memory and the USB memory can be removed after import.

Unfortunately, some styles and programs seem to hang the board or the style accompaniment. I hope Korg will release firmware updates with bug fixes.

Yoshi

Hi all,
I hope the last post from 'ytana999' will finally help to reassure owners and prospective owners of the EK50 that Korg will not ignore them and provide the facility to 'do what they have promised owners'.
I genuinely want this keyboard to succeed, particularly due to it's competitive pricing. As I said in a previous post, I spent an hour with Luke Edwards playing around with the first EK50 in the U.K. Not only was I amazed to think I was listening to a keyboard (that can be purchased currently in the U.K. for £330 from a major retailer) but the sounds onboard if put through an external PA would hold their own in a 'group' context. Great piano sound, E.piano sounds, pads, etc.
As much as I love my PA4X, I do care where the industry is heading so if these incredibly cheap keyboards can be acknowledged as not just toys but practical, useable great sounding instruments then it's got to be fantastic news.
Chris
p.s. As has been mentioned a couple of times in this thread Korg have to be on the ball with O/S updates for the EK50. It's vitally important they sort out the 'hanging notes' issue sooner the better.

Importing sounds? That would be nifty. Undocumented feature for sure.

Chelsea, I am also interested to see Korg et al succeed.

I would say, the EK blows the Yamaha E out of the water soundwise and now perhaps featurewise.

But Yamaha is excelling at one thing particularily well: after sales support through music software and song related styles. That is a major selling point, I believe.

Well, it's the end of the year now, so did any further goodies come along for the EK-50? I'm not buying one myself as I need, and am happy enough with, the harmoniser in my Pa3x.

I'm just curious about the EK-50 because Christmas is approaching and this board, and the price bracket it's in, makes it a serious contender in the gift category for those so inclined.

There is an update that allows for the Pa50 and Microarranger Styles to be loaded.

It will load and save 6 sets of 16 user styles (96 in total ) but there is NO WAY of managing these files on-board.
Unless these are manged/sorted externally - you simply get what you load in the 'one hit' and waste many of the 96 slots available.

This board has a great OS and is the best entry board I have EVER owned.
It shares many of the bread and butter Korg styles and voice sounds from over the years and is really simple to operate, good connections and decent OBS.

I have just been on one of the biggest ships in the world, with several music venues on it and ironically the ONLY arranger i spotted on the entire ship was an EK50 being used by a great pro. and it sounded the dogs though a good PA!!

Roll on more models in this range!!!
