If what you are looking for is left side of the split on one midi channel and the right side of the split on another midi channel, then you start with the split set up in Combi mode.

Go to timbre parameters page and look in midi tab page. Settings for each timbre midi channel will let you set the channel to whatever you like.
If you set any channel to other than Globally assigned channel, you will lose audibility of sound of the internal program in that timbre.
If you have kronos midi linked to an external program of the same midi channel setting, you will hear the external device program play.

You can do some midi channel re-routing, using Karma. Karma will let you have your internal program sound be heard even while it is set to a non global midi channel.
