|

Hi
To assign a DIRECT SET :
I noticed that some SET can be selected directly from usb devices and other SET must be copied on hard disk before being selected as a DIRECT SET.
Have you an idea why some Set are OK and why others are not ?
Is there something to do with SET content ?
Does it depend to samples used by these SET ?

PA4X latest User Manual p912 wrote: | Direct data are additional Keyboard Sets, Styles and SongBook Entries and Set Lists, residing in a storage device like the internal drive or a removable
USB drive. They can be considered as an extension of the internal memory. |
So, DIRECT sets rely on everything else being already loaded internally like sounds/samples etc... - a DIRECT SET does not use its own sounds
Hope this helps

Hi
Thanks for reply
but if DIRECT SET does not use its own sounds I don't understand why some DIRECT SET work only on hard drive and not USB device
As a result I think it's better to always copy .SET on hard drive so It will work in any cases (and avoid USB unplug problems refering to my other post). |

Having your DIRECT SET on USB or Hard drive should make no difference, however please note this:-
Lets say you have a DIRECT SET called "MYMUSIC.SET"
You place it on a USB and insert it.
Next you assign that SET as DIRECT - all should work fine as long as you have that exact USB inserted.
Let's also say you have that same SET on a different USB or HARD drive "MYMUSIC.SET"
If you want to use the different USB or HARD DRIVE copy (even though it is the same SET) you MUST unassign the DIRECT set first and then re-assign it from the other media.

do you know the max pathname size supported by PA4x ?
I thought about this :
if PA4x Filesystem is FAT32 : max pathname size should be less than 255 characters.
on a unix-like system Hard drive is problably monted as /
But USB device should be mounted as something like /var/mount/media/...
As a result we cant use the same length on usb and hard drive devices ...
But I don't know if PA4x works like this and my pathname is not so long !

Keeping your media device-name a sensible length and folders with no embedded symbols/spaces should then not present a problem
Of course this applies to the actual filenames too - I would guess 255 is the limit and the hard drive may well be mounted on a "/var/mount/media" (or similar directory) particularly as it is not the boot device. Apple-Mac's UNIX mounts all devices on /Volume/<<medianame>> etc....
I think the safe key is to keep it simple where possible....
Cheers

In PA4x manual :
"Please keep in mind that, depending on the actual data, you could not be able to directly load SET folders; in this case, open the folder, and load each bank or individual item separately"
I tried to load PA3x set in DIRECT ACCESS but didn't succeed
It always complain about conversion errors so I have to load items separately.
Is there something to do about this problem or it will always fail ?
