I want to take some of my Midi songs & make Audio tracks from them - so I can play (with) them on my MODX7.
The MODX7 will play them if they're WAV aiff files, or so I'm told.

My question is - what do you set the "Audio Track Select" to?
Audio input 1 & 2; S/P Dif L or R, or L/R; Rec Bus 1, 2; or the Indiv's.

My understanding is this is the source you're recording from.

Has anybody tried playing Audio files on a MODX ?

Thanks in advance - Rick

You didn't mention it- i think the 1st step is to convert your midi track recordings in the SEQ into audio WAV files.

Lets say your original song recorded on a Midi Channel is only 2 tracks, drums, then bass. Its a SONG file

You would use the Audio Sampling tab in the SEQ to save the SONG [SNG} as a WAV file.

Then play that WAV file as regular audio out on your Kronos.
Route audio out to your MODX7.

I don't follow the audio track select part in your post. That sounds like Audio in on your Kronos Global.

Possibly I am misunderstanding.

Setting the record source to L/R is the most basic and straight forward way.

It only gets complicated when you have all kinds of different routings going in different places.

I am not experienced with what Greg mentioned, but if there is a menu item that allows quick easy conversion of a song to a wave file, in Seq.mode Audio-Sampling, then that should do the trick.
But there are several steps to get that wave file back to a Kronos audio track if you want it there.

Maybe it works out as the same effort to just record it straight into an audio track and save it from there.
I always use Audio sampling to make wave files.
I use “Resampling” setup in the audio sampler when i want to record audio from midi generated sounds of combis.
Maybe Sequencer has more to its Audio sampler menu options.
Like what Greg mentioned. Sounds like a quick easy way to convert a song to a wave file.

Video below will show you how to do that, one of the first things that I wondered how to do when I got my Kronos and found this video and got me understanding the process.

Thanks for replies, guys..
Greg, it looks like you were on the right track (no pun intended) with the Audio Sampling Tab.
Purgatory - Video tutorial is very helpful.
Will try this afternoon or tomorrow & let y'all know how I make out.

Well, of course it couldn't be that simple.

The MODX wouldn't play the AUDIO file, & the people on the Yamaha synth forum are telling me it must be because the file isn't 44.1 kHz or 16 / 24 bit.

So.....when you make a Audio file from a SEQ on the K ... is it 44.1 kHz ?

I think it defaults to 16 bit, & 24 bit is optional.

Is there a place to check the properties of a file?

You can set Kronos to 16bit or 24bit, via Global mode settings.
or you can set the bit depth in the sampling settings in sequencer, combi or program modes.

As far as the Sampling rate goes: 48kHz. I checked here- https://www.korg.com/us/products/synthesizers/kronos2/page_2.php

It says:
Open Sampling System (resampling, In-Track sampling) Bit Depth/Sampling Frequency RAM: 16-bit/48 kHz stereo/mono sampling
DISK: 16 or 24-bit/48 kHz

You should check to be sure if ModX is limited to playing back only 44.1kHz files.
Also look into using ModX to sample the outputs from Kronos.

Thanks 16naia,

I'm looking into converting my Audio file from 48 gHz to 44.1..apparently there are apps that will do that.

According to the Yamaha gurus, 44.1 is all the MODX will play, 16 or 24 bit.

Use this https://www.audacityteam.org/ and all you need to do is load the wav file in and then export it as a wav file again, you may get away without changing any settings, so try just exporting as is and test it. If it fails again make sure to have the wav file changed to 44.1kHz (44,100 Hz) and export again. Its a easy and very useful program and its totally free. Audacity in my opinion is one of the best programs for working with audio and amazingly free, even some paid apps are nowhere near as good as it.

totally agree. Audacity is my ' slow downer', WAV file manipulator, etc etc.

It even puts up with Apple OS upgrades , such as Mojave.

Ha!

Thanks Mike!

I converted one file with Audacity … and just now, another with the K!

Proves the K can do it all.

Thanks again everybody.
