Hi!

Well, the title says it all

Should I buy it?.

How's the sound quality and user OS, compared with the Kronos 2. Built quality? Any issues?

Sound quality is pretty much the same across all Kronos models. There's also no real difference with the same OS on any model (super slight increase in polyphony with later models, maybe). Meaning, any Kronos model can have any OS version. It's just that the later models include sound expansions that owners of older ones would have to buy.

I recently had a chance to play a Kronos LS at a music store while I was auditioning a Nord. The semi-weighted piano style was actually very playable, on both piano sounds and non-pianos. And the fact that it weighs less is great too, especially if you plan to move it around a lot. At 39 pounds it's not light, but it sure beats having to haul 53 pounds on a regular basis.

No aftertouch though.

So if you're not too picky about not having a hammer action, a good price on an LS is a great opportunity.

I recommend that you play an LS before buying one. In this case, the actual used one if possible. I bought an LS online and had it home for a week. I just couldn’t adjust to the semi-weighted action. The key throw seems shallow to me and I had a difficult time getting a consistent response at various dynamic levels.

I know other people on here have posted that they have one and love it. That's great and you may love it, too. But then again you may not.

As far as I know, the later models do NOT have any increase, slight or otherwise, in polyphony or any other performance related area. Someone suggested that the D/A converters are of better quality on the later models. I have an original 73 and a K2-61 and K2-88. I hear no difference on any of them. In all likelihood, the D/A converters are far from the weakest link in any of our audio chains. And slight boost in quality won’t be noticeable by the time the sound gets to your ears.
