Hi

AS far as I know There are several solutions to get yamaha styles on korg keyboards

1- use EMC style works
HAve you experience on this software , in particular last version supporting PA4x ?

2- convert yamaha style to midifile and then usr korg creator bot

3- play yamaha styles on yamaha keyboards and creating midifile from play.
I tried this method. The result is not so bad but it miss some parts .
Do you know rule of thumbs about it ?
Is there a method to use this method without using sequencer and adding markers ?

Olivier

Hi Oliver

Remembering that there is a big difference between Yamaha and Korg styles - in particular Korg's Chord Variation feature.

1. I have heard good & bad about EMC over the years - have no idea how it would cope with PA4X.

2. MIDI is certainly a reasonable way to try but a lot of work

3. Really hard to get the ACC parts to line up but as you have experienced, is possible to get some results.

I have never come across a nice way to do this as yet and I imagine both manufacturers would not want it to be easy!!!
(Casio can import Yamaha styles though!!!!!!)
If you only want a handful of specific styles then let the forum know - someone may have done it already or created suitable USER styles to share.

Here's a thought...
Yamaha styles are actually midi files with some added information.
You can change the extension from .sty to .mid and they will play on a PC.
Perhaps just change the extension to .mid and run it through the midi to style converter on the Pa4X. I haven't tried it, so don't know if it would work.

DonM

Yep that works, too a fashion. Got one that's pretty good called Italo Disco, the others I've tried are a bit strange but maybe able to edit them to make them useable.

I'm not brilliant at editing styles though but I wil try converting a few others and see how I get on.

Good suggestion though.

Cheers

Hi

Renaming Styles files to mid does not work
Style creator bot generates an error on import

Yeah you get errors on some but about 50% so far have converted, most are somewhat out of wack but a couple are usable. I'm looking at editing the markers using Cubase to see if I can fix the broken ones.

Will update when I get somewhere.

Cheers

Sorry I forgot one detail : PA4x read only midifiles format 0
After converting to the old format style creator bot imported midifile

But result is very bad .... a lot of issues regarding tracks , volumes ....

Result was a lot better by recording the style on original keyboard while playing

The best way to convert Yamaha files (at least for me) is do manually using MIDI DAW editor.
Yamaha Style has extension .sty, but is only midi, means changing for .mid giving you midi file with markers.
...then different between Yamaha Style and midi ready to import to Korg style is Markers Name.
Main A --> v1cv1
Main B --> v2cv1
Main C --> v3cv1
Main D --> v4cv1
Fill In AA --> f1cv1
Fill In BB --> f2cv1
Fill In CC --> f3cv1
Fill In DD --> f4cv1
Intro A --> i1cv1
Intro B --> i2cv1
Intro C --> i3cv1
Ending A --> e1cv1
Ending B --> e2cv1
Ending C --> e3cv1
Fill In BA -->br1cv1 ( optional, not always good for break)

Of course you need to find out what key is midi file, is it C, D E or ... and if is Major or minor.
when you save it with new marker names, make sure your midi editor save with midi0 format.
Then open new style record mode and import midi file using shift key (import with markers).
Then still a lots of work, but is a good start for new Korg Style.

Nemiks way is the correct one.
But in my experience I got a much faster result beginning with a KORG style, which is similar to the wanted format, and then edit this one.
All really good yamaha styles use special programming based on yamaha specific details (SA voices, special effects depending on aftertouch or velocity values etc.) This can‘ t be interpreted in an other instrument in the same way. So changing this in detail is really a lot of work.
Changing Korg specific programmed styles maybe faster with a (korg specific) better result.
Just my opinion.

Thanks Nemik

I was searching all variation Markers names and I still didn"t find them.
So you answer my question before I wrote it
Laughing

I am still a newbie in PA4x and korg arranger . I have to experiment a couple of things ...
Tom04 : I agree most of the time Korg styles will sound better in particular if we assembly a new style with parts of other one.
But in case of specific songstyles we have to start from the beginning for all parts and it's a lot of work.
Example : I have conquest of paradise in Yamaha format. No korg styles is closed to it.

@oliv73
Yamaha has only 1 version of element, where Korg has more.
In Korg Styles variation has up to 6CV and rest up to 2CVs.
You can clone CV1 to CV2 and adjust to different version of chord, but is optional and not always necessary.

Any ideas on this one then.

I have successfully converted a few, ItaloDisco is still the best but the others are a starting point.

However the ones I can't convert, one in particular at the moment successfully converts if I remove the drum track, regardless of midi format it fails if I reinstate the drum track.

I've saved it out as midi type 0.
I've edited all the markers.
I've pasted in a drum track from a different style.
I've copied all the notes out of the track, deleted the track, created a new track and pasted the notes back in and it still fails, remove the track and it converts.

Any suggestions on what might cause such behaviour?

Cheers

I tried conversions using an old demo version of EMC styleworks
found here :

Result is not great at all...
