After a zillion gigs, today we had major problems connecting the pa4x to a pair of x32 mixers through a snake. The festival hired a supposedly reputable sound production company to run an FOH x32 and a separate x32 for monitoring. With all our club gigs, we always use left and right outs with trs to xlr cables. Never had a problem before connecting to our own X32 or any other setup provided by the house. At today’s festival gig, as soon as the xlr connects to snake, the pa4x produces no sound, not even thru the headphone jack. Disconnect the outs, and the Pa4x works fine. Production company claims the problem must be the Pa4x, but we know that is not true. So, we take our trs male jacks and connect them to the unbalanced outs of our Nord C2D, and lo and behold we have sound to the FOH and we finish the gig half-assed without the pa4x. So, the question is, what could possibly have gone wrong at the snake or the x32s that would silence the pa4x. The techs knew we were feeding them trs/xlr. Why would unbalanced outs from the Nord work with the trs to xlr to snake, but the balanced out from the pa4x would actually totally silence the keyboard? Kinda would like to figure it out for the next time we run across this incompetent sound production company. Next time we’ll bring along our own unbalanced cables and a stereo di box. |

Shot in the dark here... but is it possible that the X32 phantom power was on and being sent to your PA4X outputs which may of disrupted the audio circuitry? _________________ Korg PA5X-76 : Yamaha Montage M8x : Roland Jupiter 80 : Waldorf STVC : Roland Integra 7 : Waldorf Streichfett : Focal Trio6 ST6 : Studio Outboards/RME Audio Interface/A&H SQ Mixer : |

Thanks for the shot in the dark diagnosis. You were correct. The sound production company has now admitted they had phantom power turned on in error to the two channels assigned to the Pa4X. They are sorry for blaming the keyboard. At least now we know what to do next time we run into this problem or play a gig where Sound Productions of Caledonia, Ontario is managing the sound. Thanks again D575. |
