I know I can back up each pattern to the SD card and then copy the SD card to my PC.

But is there a way to do this via the USB cable? It's inconvenient having to turn off the Electribe when I'm editing patterns and backing up frequently.

Nope.

USB there is only for MIDI connection to a computer, with the appropriate driver.

Which is a pity from the beginning.

You can dump patterns via the TRS MIDI output using SysEx.

Dump the current pattern:

F0 42 3g 00 01 24 10 F7

Dump 1 specific pattern:

F0 42 3g 00 01 24 1C pp PP F7

g = Global channel
pp = Pattern number LSB
PP = Pattern number MSB

The full MIDI implementation is available here:

I'm not sure about samples, I've never owned the sampler version. On some devices you can load samples via the sync input.

Also, on the synth you can hotswap SD cards, no need to shutdown.

Sure, SysEx is an option on both TRS and USB MIDI.
But you need to do this "by hand" with a SysEx software manager or some kind of DAW custom panel, since there's no librarian for the electribe. Doable but not trivial.

As for SD-Card hot-swapping, manual states it's not recommended.

4. Insert and remove memory card
You can use a memory card to save (write) or load (read) a song for playback or to read data.
Never insert or remove the memory card with the system power turned ON. You may lose data on the system or in the memory card, or alternatively, you may damage the memory card.

Thank you, I hadn't seen that.

To send/receive SysEx with a Linux system:

amidi -p PORT_NAME -S HEX_BYTES -r FILE_NAME.syx -t 1
