Mac Pro 2019 Teardown -> https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Mac+Pro+2019+Teardown/128922

"The new Mac Pro is a Fixmas miracle: beautiful, amazingly well put together, and a masterclass in repairability"

Personally I would love to see new Mac Pro without Apple T2 coprocessor.

I prefer apple. But i don’t think this is worth the money..
Priced above €10.000 fora full configuration
And thats witouth a screen..

However my mac mini with 32GB and a core i7 is every bit worth its money..
Its also got 8 cores..

Hi sharp Very Happy

I’m thinking of a new pc/mac system, but leaning towards mac. (MacBook Pro 16) I’m concerned that windows 10 I have (old one) has too many background tasks when I Don’t need them whilst using cubase/recording audio etc - which cause pops crackles etc (popups/reminders/virus updates etc)

So do you use a bare-bones windows 10 system with just music software? And maybe disable WiFi when recording 🤷‍♂️

If your going with a Mac, check out the audio glitching issues with the T2 chip. That may effect you depending on your existing audio interface.

The main thing with windows from an audio point of view is is you must use an ASIO audio interface. Beyond that, everything else is down to the end user and the choices they make. Same can be said to Mac users.

Viruses are only an issue if you install infected software you downloaded from some dodgy website. This is very much an end user issue in my opinion. I’ve not had a virus on my Windows machine’s for as long as I can remember. But I can assure you I’ve fixed the next-door neighbours windows laptop quite a few times because they just love click bate and downloading $hit from torrents. Stupid is as stupid does.

Popups and notifications can be turned off individually or globally at the OS level for Windows notifications.

Personally I've never had had a reason to do that. My studio pc is always connected to the net and does pretty much everything I need in the studio. That being said, if you are looking for a computer for music only, then there's no reason to connect it to the net. No internet means no updates, no chances of anything changing and so on.

Probably a good idea of your a Mac or PC user.

Regards
Sharp.

lol sharp on the forest gump quote!!
true for sure!!

I have always seen the ping for checking the latest version of software is a true pita!!

some of the good software out there will not run unless it is connected!!
that update loop is a real black hole for any bandwidth...
let alone computing power you thought you had!!

I use both pc and mac here in the studios...
I have not had good luck with lap tops in any form with work load...
some have had good luck!!

Thanks sharp, wasn’t aware (at all) about the T2 chip issue(s) I’ll look in to that when considering. Still got - relatively speaking, a decent pc for audio/recording - even if it is 6-7 years old (i7 980X 6 core CPU - and recently fitted I TB a samsung SSD).

I think the only problem I’ve had is the above mentioned and not, say, the sound card itself (behringer). I also record in to the trusted KORG D3200! I do like this machine.

Thanks 👍

So, let me see, for even a relatively entry-level one at $10K (give or take) I could get ...

A shiny new Kronos 88. (About $3500)

An external controller with all the pads and whatsits I might want for additional control. (About $500)

A cheap laptop just for format conversion and uploading, running whatever. Linux, why not? (About $500)

A nice set of monitors (oooh, let's do $2500 - not crazy, but not cheaping out)

A grotbox and a decent set of open-backed headphones ($500 altogether)

A keyboard stand, a comfy chair, cables by the yard and some room treatment all for the same price.

It's the cost of a bedroom studio.

For $60K .... wow. I'll have the KingKORG, the Kronos and, what the hell, let's add in a full range of smaller synths including every Volca, MS20 type hardware, external effects units, premium mics and practically rebuild the damn room and still have money left over for lunch.

Apple: now aiming for the tax dodge market.

2019 Mac Pro overpriced ?

Mac Pro is simply capable of secs that are approaching the top what can be built with hardware that exists today.
Those who think otherwise should visit DELL website and build online XEON workstation to shatter the MYTH spread by some YouTubeers and other ignorants.

it's true, that RAM and SSDs are probably not fairly priced, but that's the "penalties" of the brand that apply to any Mac.

When comes to Apple XDR Pro Display is the same story, it’s actually the other way around.
You are getting a reference-quality display at bargain price, the only thing that Apple screwed up is that the stand should be a part of the display and keep quiet about the price.

Personally I thing Mac Pro is one of the greatest machine built by Apple, and in the music industry .... for Logic Pro users is like having a suite made to measuments.

In summary for anyone who makes music, avoid Apple products with the T2 chip.

Sharp.

Does this mean they've finally fixed the T2 chip glitches?
