Hi there,

I found out that it isn't possible to solo certain timbres (channels if you like) and save this to the combi.

I know enough situations that this would be needed and any digital mixer can save the solo status of channels. So why doesn't (my) Kronos do this?

It is a bug? a feature?

I wonder what you think.

Unless I’m misunderstanding your question, while you can’t save the solo states you can mute the timbres you want silenced and save the combi. Wouldn’t that accomplish the same thing?

You're correct, however: I have a combi with an orchestra + piano.
First I wan't to mute the orchestra (6 timbres) and unmute the orchestra while playing.

The obvious way would be: solo the piano and then un-solo the piano.

Another possible way of accomplishing this. You could save two combis, one with the strings muted, one with them unmuted. You could move back and forth between them with the INC/DEC buttons, or even put them in a set list and have a pedal advance to the next one. That way you don't have to press 6 things to unmute the string tracks.

I don't know if not saving solo state is a bug, feature, or otherwise, but sounds like it's confirmed anyway.

It's one bit per timbre, so if it is a limitation of the format then that's a pity.
Otherwise, if it's not a problem to "fix" in a new build then Korg should do this.

The other solution with 2 combi's is my workaround too for now. hey, it works, but it's not elegant.

You could use Karma scenes to automatically mute and unmute several timbres in a combi at once.

An alternative that I use for this sort of thing is to use the Expression pedal to bring in the strings / orchestra volume as needed. The easiest way I have found for this in Combi is to do this through an effect (I use Stereo Limiter). This way, you can route all of the sounds / timbres you want to bring in through the effect.

The settings I use are:
Gain -inf
Wet
Source: foot pedal
Amount: -100

This setting will bring up the volume as you push the pedal down.

I already had contact with TritonHaven about this issue (no solution, reproducible as anybody here too).

Also I sent an email to Korg Inc, too bad I don't have an answer back; since it is not mentioned in the manual.

However, beyond the solution of Mersip, it's also possible to use an expression pedal (not sure to set it to expression or volume, I think expression), and afaik it is possible to make a MIDI filter and switch those timbres off for expression that needs to stay on the default volume, while others 'listen' to the pedal.
