Hi, I've been watching the various video's on the new Korg SV2. When I bought my Kronos the SV1 was still pretty new. The piano's on the SV2 seem better than what I have (stock) on my Kronos. Does anyone know if the sound engines or the samples used in the SV2 are updates to the Kronos stock piano samples?

I also use a Nord Electro 5 and I'm tempted to swap it for the SV2 as it looks like I can set up most of the splits and layers I'd need using the computer editing software. Has anyone had a chance to check out the organ samples? I don't use the Hammond much on my NE5, and even then only as a pad underneath a piano sound so they don't have to be that fantastic.

you didn't say if you gig or not. Knowing requirements or being clear on them is important IMO

Anyway, IMO, Korg used their existing AP samples [ as on Kronos]. Thats what I hear.

The diffs are use of reverb and reverb FX variation. Korg is always strong on these Fx.

Of course, in the Korg demo, Luke is a fabulous on keys.

Maybe you can find a direct quote from Korg where they state they sounded with what AP samples.

Well just look at what he could do with an SV1 5 years ago:

Sorry GregC, I didn't think it mattered.

I play the festival circuit and often don't get a soundcheck, just a line check. I don't get the chance to see what my rig sounds like out front unless someone has recorded the event. Luckily I'm usually on a sizable stage with a full PA and sound engineers to manage it.

However... quick turnarounds mean the Kronos both in terms of weight and difficulty of 'on the fly' changes and a slow start-up is not ideal. So my Kronos lives at home in my small but beautiful formed studio. My gigging rig is a Nord Electro 5 for pianos/organs and a Korg KingKorg for synths, pads/lead.

If the pianos inside the SV2 are basically the same as the Kronos 2 then I'll stay as I am. But... if the pianos are better than Kronos 2 then I could give up the Nord for it.

yeah, knowing where your plans/priorties are helps to frame my answer more accurately.

I agree with your initial take, so maybe continue a list of pros/cons to nail down an informed choice. The SV2 is very attractive, so its easy to make a quick or more impulsive decision. It is very expensive IMO.

I like the reverb and FX control on the SV2. However, in your festival environment I question how effective reverb is on your pianos , on punching
thru the FOH or large PA.
