Sorry, I am new to forum-ing in general and had some trouble getting my post to show up. This is what it said:
"Hi,
I am a new Korg Kronos owner and I have recently discovered a strange noise coming from my Kronos. It is a high pitched noise emitting from the right side output only that sounds like crickets. It plays when I press any key regardless of what patch I am using and seems to be most noticeable on the "Faithfully Piano" for some reason.
Here is a recording of the sound, first isolated (by pressing the empty keys at the bottom of the faithfully piano), and then as it sounds when I try to play other keys.

If anyone can identify what this sound is, or help me get rid of it, I would be so grateful!"

which piano program ?
I think I heard it during decay.. buts its not an obvious sound.
Could be standard damper noise.
Acoustic pianos have damper noise. Thus sampled AP's in Kronos have that

It is definitely not something that is supposed to be there. The recording I posted is compressed so that the sound is more noticeable when it is isolated at the beginning and end of the recording.
It is not sample specific, because I have heard it on bass patches also. It happens most with low frequency notes, I suppose. It actually seems to go away after playing for a while, but is back when I turn the board on |

EQ can exaggerate some stray noises. Check your treble setting.
Having that on '10' will add clicks, noise, etc.
But if its ' definitely not suppose to be there ' and its universal on every program, logic tells me to return the Kronos/exchange it _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Is it audible through headphones, when there is no other audio or USB device connected? Mobile phone or other radio devices well away from the Kronos? |

It does come through the headphones, regardless of what else is connected.
That is an interesting thought about the radio devices. I will conduct some experiments with that when I get home from work. |

The noise you've recorded doesn't seem to come from hiss or 50/60 Hz hum.
I would rather say it is a DAC converter default, or some capacitor failing on output.
Like Greg, it seems the better choice for you is to contact your seller for an exchange. |

If nothing is connected in the Kronos and you can hear it in headphone plug into the Kronos, return the unit. I don't have anything like this on mine. |

Before returning it, try to do a factory reset. Would doubt that a user setting could result in what you are hearing, but a reset could rule that out and if a reset works, you’d save yourself the trouble having ship it back and wait for a replacement. |

Here is an update:
I performed a factory reset on the Kronos, but unfortunately, the noise persists. Currently, I am waiting on Korg to respond to my email. If that turns out to be a dead end as well, then I will go to my local repair shop to see about fixing any converter or other hardware issue.

if you haven't done this, disconnect your K from all other midi devices.
also disconnect all pedals- and see if you can reproduce the unwanted sound _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Thanks for the update Bryan. I found Korg’s support to be pretty good, hope this is also going to be the case for you.
Please keep us posted, curios what is going on with your board. |
