Hi all
Having kindly been given the arp prog for Duran Duran’s Rio song by enigmahack, I am now trying to programme the sound for the synth in the verse....i.e. the choppy synth chords. Each chord plays twice (as two 16th notes I think) and I’m wondering if anybody knows whether Nick Rhodes played it either:

1) live...i.e. played each chord twice in quick succession
2) played each chord once and used a slapback type of echo/delay...or...
3) played each chord once and used keyboard programming to trigger it twice in sync with the arp.

I’m kind of assuming it is number 3, but I can’t work out how to programme that. I’ve tried Googling/Youtube etc but haven’t got to the bottom of it. I don’t even know the correct terminology for it to search for it succesfully!

If anybody has any advice I would be really appreciative.

Many thanks.

I'm sure it's an effect, because the subsequent notes are softer.

Not sure what Nick did, but I’ve got a couple of songs that I’ve put together recently with similar scenarios. One is Eyes Without A Face, and more recently Maneater.

I’m using Tape Echo with Eyes, as the pad repeats three times, and I’m using L/C/R Delay with Maneater and only using the L values to make the EP repeat once.

I’ve been planning to work up Rio, but haven’t been able to spend the time yet.

You have links to this work? Two great songs that I’d like to check out.

Thanks.

Nothing recorded or published - the Wuhan virus put a crimp on ambitions to be gigging by now, but we are starting to rehearse again.

I may put together a couple of clips just because you asked - thanks for the interest.

Thanks all. I’ve tried the delay fx trick, and that has done the job nicely. Smile
