Hi!

I'm having problems setting up a MIDI clock daisy chain with the Wavestate

I have 3 synths: Minilogue xd, Wavestate and M-audio Venom

My plan was to start the midi clock chain from the Minilogue, which would control the tempo, through the Wavestate and finally to the Venom:

Minilogue (tempo clock) -> Wavestate -> Venom

the problem i'm having is that the Wavestate does not appear to pass along the midi clock unless it is set to use it's own internal clock, in which case it sends tempo/clock to the Venom just fine.
The Wavestate receives and reacts to the clock from the Minilogue xd as it's supposed to.

My understanding was that midi clock is supposed to be global across all the synths - so how come Wavestate does not pass along the clock?
I've tried setting Wavestate to both Auto and External (and using MIDI in/out)

Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue or know a possible way correct it? am I missing something? (I'm kinda new to multiple synth setups)

(I know i could buy a midi controller, it just seems unnecessary for my small setup)

Thank you,

Hi,

No, passing along the clock is typically done using the MIDI THRU connector. The latter one is not so often available anymore on synths these days. The MIDI THRU is typically inside the board just a parallel connection to the MIDI IN connector. (Like a splitter).

In theory boards could replicate the clock from IN to OUT (and filter out the keystrokes that it receives), but that is rarely done (at least I can't remember one right now), because MIDI IN and OUT would normally be connected to the same external device. If that one generates a clock, it would also receive then its own clock back and may cause a loop.

So, it is a limitation of your setup, not an issue.
Look for MIDI THRU boxes like this one to put in your setup. http://www.midisolutions.com/prodqth.htm. You can hook up the Minilogue on the IN port and the 2 other on the THRU ports.

Have fun.
