What will be so called new?
Already Pa1000 have better CPU on iyt than the 4 x, But does not use it (YET)
|
That is what I have thought for quite a while.
I have assumed that as the OS of the 1000 & 700 have not been updated significantly they or at least the 1000 will get their version of Next when the Pa 5X is released in order to refresh what are now old models. |
Will it be a Pa5x ?
Or will it be something new, the (r)evolution the arranger world needs?
Personally, i think the high end version of the pa series will finally step to the hardware structure of the Kronos/nautilus.. giving it much much more power..
There is quite a lot of those engines that would also make sense in a pa series key.. it shouldn’t be to hard and to expensive to get a hardware boost compared to the Kronos.. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

Looks like the PA4X might be on the way out
I just picked up a new one for $2900
The next one would have to be phenomenal to beat that price/performance level |

I think we are still confusing a product like a workstation or an arranger with the underlying engine inside it. There were considerable differences between the triton and the PA line of arrangers. But the hardware under the hood of the arranger had a LOT in common.
But the aspects that are being criticized in the Kronos are software design issues, not a product of the underlying engine. If the arranger design team want to change slider behavior, or change the appearance of the font size of the GUI, there’s no reason why they can’t.
It’s like taking a Corvette engine and dropping it into a new chassis. You don’t have to use the Corvette’s cup holders or dash!
Yes, there might be a newer CPU in the PA1000, but it certainly didn’t translate into more insert effects, or significantly faster response, or anything really noticeable. I rather doubt that CPU in a PA5X is going to translate to a tripling of effect processor power, or true modeled analog synth behavior, or any of the truly significant improvements in the Nautilus’ basic engine.
Don’t assume that minor design gaffes in the workstation line will automatically come over with the engine. The first Triton based PA series arranger was a VERY different experience to the user that the first Triton.
There is, however, ONE aspect of the Nautilus hardware/software that could use a significant reworking… It turns out, the number of supported basic sample ID’s is virtually the same as the PA4X’s. So the use of sliced drum and percussion loops is still going to be the same issue. Perhaps faster loading mitigates the problem, I’m not familiar with the sample load times of the Kronos/Nautilus compared to the PA4X (karma?), or whether there’s a high quality time and pitch transposition engine in the Naurilus that might make slicing moot, but it seems to me that upping the index number bit depth (the more bits, the more addresses) would allow loop slicing to become a more practical live tool.
Most arrangers have been tacked onto an existing hardware package from another line. Roland based the early G series (G1000, G800 etc.) on the Sound Canvas products. Later G and E series were based around the Fantom engine (G70, E80 etc), Korg have used the Triton engine for a long time. But they have a significantly better engine ready to go. Had it for ten years. And dropping a bit more powerful CPU into the old Triton framework isn’t going to help much, IMHO.
You can’t turn an in-line six into a V8, no matter how hard you work on the crankshaft! Come on, Korg… give us the V8! |

Yes!! I really wanted one but couldn't justify a second mortgage at that time - made do with the M3 (which was great!!) and now my Kronos.....

I have just ordered a new Pa4x 76 Oriental, replacing my earlier Pa4x which was "lost in the post". I spoke with my supplier - Thomann (Germany) about the Pa4x supply situation - and Korg are currently manufacturing a new batch of PA4x keyboards which will be delivered by Korg to European suppliers in January.
They knew nothing about the Pa4x being end of line, quite the opposite. |

Strange….
Thats not what Thomann Germany and musik store told me..
According to them, both the kronos as well as the pa4x are end of life..
The only thing left is old stock. _________________ Korg Kronos 2/88 , Genos, Mainstage3 +VSTsu, ipad pro, GSi Gemini, Roland Integra 7, Jupiter Xm, Yamaha motif XS rack, Ketron SD90.

Any chance of a clear picture and some information regarding its source??
Rumour pictures were and are always impossible to see clearly.
It looks like a picture from a brochure and edited as such - can't understand why it wouldn't be clearer - you can't even see the logo clearly.
There are some issues with that picture but could only be confirmed if it was clearer.
Far from convincing for me.... none of the pre-release "rumours" since the i30 have been accurate/genuine so far.
Maybe this one is, but let's have a real picture with information for once and a reliable source reference....
Right now - it is just another rumour. I would love to be convinced otherwise!!
Oh!! What happened to this:-

AND THIS:-

Using these clips I could re-word my original OP question:-
