|
|
Dear Pa5x users -
Is there anyone out there that had a Kronos before you got your Pa5x?
I'm interested in how the Sequencers compare.
I've recorded hundreds of MIDI tracks on my 1st generation Kronos on its sequencer, but lately the Power Supply has quit. I've replaced it twice, but it keeps quitting. I'll try a third time if I can find a power supply.
But I'm also thinking about getting a Pa5x 76, if I can get the same results from it's Sequencer.
Are the Sequencers on both machines comparable?
Thanks in advance for your replies. |

I'm not sure if this was answered elsewhere - I kind of remember this post.
My take: The Sequencer on the 5x is virtually non-existent. There is one, but it is nothing like the Kronos 32 Track Sequencer. Hopefully KORG has a plan to improve this a great deal.
For now - you can record with the Sequencer, however I have only been able to ARM one track at a time. So you'll have to record an instrument, go back and record the second instrument, etc until you build up your song. This method is fine when building a backing track, or drum track.
Also of note - I have not been able to record (to the sequencer) the current Style as it plays. I think this should be a workable feature. I guess you could Sample Record a style as you play it, and then bring it in one one track in the sequencer. But you can't simply arm tracks 1 thru 8 while you record. _________________ Dave Kalbach

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply, yes you answered my question on the Kronos forum..
I've just replaced my power supply on my K for the third time, and I'm using my Kronos right now to record Nelson Riddle's arrangement of I've Got You Under My Skin (as Frank recorded it), so for the time being, assuming the p/s holds out, I'm a happy guy.
If this one blows, then I'll probably just buy a used Kronos. I looked at the Roland Fantom 8 but that looks like a whole different system, a little strange. So I want to stick with what I know.
Thanks for your help, it really helped clarify my choices.

...it is incredibly intuitive... I love its "one Mode" concept - brilliant design - very different to Kronos which I loved for several years but it was time for a change for me.
If you are at interested, check out Ed Diaz's tutorials and Jack's video reviews (Andertons UK)
Kronos still rocks of course...... don't think there'll be a replacement from Korg...

Thanks Pete, I'll check out the videos. That's encouraging. I may still need to consider a Fantom 8. |
