|
|
Hi,
When the Korg Oasys came out I bought one of the first available. It was a wonderful synth, the best I ever had. Children came along and after all these years I wanted to return to the Oasys - in the form of the Nautilus.
I wrote editors and Librarians over the years for the Triton, Oasys, Roland RD2000 and now Im thinking about writing an app for the Nautilus. Not an editor that replicates Korgs one or the Nautilus screen , but an app which adds something new.
If you go to my website I've started writing an app. You can download it there is also a link to the documentation. https://stuartpryer.co.uk
Its early days but it gives you an idea. However before I write any more I wanted to see if this is something Nautilus users wanted? The first feature Ive added is the ability to map Midi CC messages to sysex. So for instance if you have a controller like the korg nanocontrol or nanocontrol studio which only send out Midi CCs you can turn it into sysex to control the Drawbars of the CX3 organ. I dont own a Nautilus yet but Im thinking of getting one as Im use to the eco system coming from the Oasys.
I'm happy to take request for features and see who is interested. The app is free but you can make a donation via the link in the software to PayPal to help support its development.
Cheers

Hi Stuart,
I would most definitely be interested in an app for the Nautilus. I have messaged Julius De Berry (a guy from the U.S.A. who has posted dozens of Nautilus videos on Youtube).
This video he made may be of interest regarding the NanoKontrol.

Sign me up for that app. I'd love to be able to switch scenes with a nanokontroler. Thanks. |

Very interesting. There are a lot of Nautilus groups on Facebook. No doubt those ppl would be interested in this app. You'd probably greatly enjoy the Nautilus, I know I am. But I'd assume a lot of boards pale in comparison to your mighty Oasys. _________________ Life is short, play a KORG!

Hi,
Yes I saw Julius DeBerrys video on the nanocontrol thats one of the reasons I added cc to sysex mapping. So the nano control midi out goes to my software and sysex goes out to control say the drawbars.
The software is on my site with docs. It only version 1.0 but the midi mapping is there to test. Need confirmation of the correct sysex for drawbar control as although I got the Midi Implementation manual I dont own a Nautilus yet to test.
Cheers

Regarding switching scenes...can you find the sysex in the Midi Imp Manual which does that. If you can give me the sysex string or page location I will take a look.
Cheers

Hi Drama1,
Can you find the sysex for switching scenes in the midi manual? If so let me know as if its 7 or 4/4 bit sysex we can map it to a CC from nanocontrol.
Cheers

Hi Re changing setlist slot (scene).
It looks like this can be done without sysex. Its a bank/program change process.
Bank MSB 00
Bank LSB = 0 to 127 is the set list your using so manually ...
goto setlist mode.
choose you setlist
a Program change message sets the Set list slot. 0 ,1 , 2 etc. This works if enable bank/program change is set in global mode.
So all you need to do is choose your set list and send a program change to increment the set list slot which could possibly be done by assigning a switch/footswitch to increment the program in global mode. or see if your controller (nanokey etc) can be set to send program change messages?
I cant try it as I don't have a Nautilus - maybe Korg UK could lend me one
Be interesting to see if it works?
If this does not work I could map a CC to a program change message in the software.
Cheers

Hi Again.
I does no look like the Nanocontrol can send program change messages. Only notes or CCs.
so
1. See if assigning the footswitch to program increment works with setlists (set in Global Mode),
2. I could add a CC to program change mapping to my software. So a switch would be assigned to a CC. When its pressed the software sends a program change message of +1. Not sure if Nautilus will need bank change too, probably not. Need someone to test this out on their Nautilus.
What would be the best? Assign a note to a program change or a CC to a program change using a switch?
Update see page 565 of the parameter manual....
Note that you can use the same sound in multiple Slots
within the same Set List. This can be convenient, for
instance, for live performance when using a foot switch to
automatically advance from Slot to Slot.
ps. The metal korg PS1 is a great footswitch I use it with my Triton Pro!
cheers

Hi.
Korg call scenes Set Lists. You can advance the set list one at a time with a footswitch using program change, you dont need sysex. Just need to assign the foot switch in global to 'program up' or 'program down'. In the korg sysex Midi dump there are a lot of sysex options for set lists though as well.
cheers

Hi,
Ive uploaded version 1.0.1 to my website with updated docs covering setting up hardware control of the drawbars in the CX3 Organ model.
In the installation directory is a midi map file which contains the sysex settings for the drawbars on the Nautilus.
In the Midi/ settings menu load this map - its called
'upper drawbar map c.text'
Then all you need to do is to map your nanocontrol / controller sliders so their output midi channel and CC for sliders 1 to 9 are set up in the matrix.
eg if you have a slider 4 outputting on midi chnl say is 001 with CC 18 say. Then for that slider the Left hand side of the matrix would be :-
001 018 001 018 001 -> the last 001 enables (activates) the CC row section which goes green.
Then click mapping and the slider should move the drawbars for the CX3. I cant test this myself as I don't have a Nautilus yet.
Happy to take questions!
Cheers

Hi Stuart,
I PM'd Apex (Julius De Berry) yesterday sending him a Link to your Thread and he is now aware of the Nautilus Editor you have written. I think discussions between you both can only be good for Nautilus owners.

Hi Chris,
Yes, thank you. I have been in touch with Julius already. I've also updated the software so that it can control a Nautilus or a Kronos as there are a lot of Kronos users out there too. The software behind these two instruments is very similar. Version 1.0.3. Its on my website now with updated Docs.
Cheers
