Convert MIDI file for Korg Pa5x - READING in RECORD-edit

Post by Korg2024 »

Can someone explain to me how to convert a MIDI file, so that I can import that MIDI file in Record-style editing?

When I insert a MIDI file into the keyboard, when I go into style editing, I can't import the MIDI file. The keyboard sees it, but when I need to select it, choose it, but nothing appears, I can't turn it into a style.

You must have the markers set in order to import into style edit.

Okay, but how do I put that marker? I've never done that. Is there an instruction, a tutorial somewhere? Okay, I'll try this MIDI file from the link and report back in a couple of hours, I'm not next to the instrument at the moment.

I exported a factory style into midi format; edited it in Cakewalk and the file can be imported into a new style. So the import function works, except that it is expecting a certain MIDI file format. Maybe some of our experts here can throw some light on this subject.

The file I created can be downloaded from https://www.mediafire.com/file/9goasi3i ... m.mid/file

You must also rename it to corresponding elements (i1cv1,v1cv1 etc)

There are two ways to create styles which Qui had already demonstrated, see the video links below.

(1) Easy Method : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SURtgts ... Jh03fIU0JK

(2) Pro Grade : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9PP4o0 ... Jh03fIU0JK

The key for me that works in cakewalk is that the first marker regardless of what it is needs to start at 1:01.

To do this swiftly, you need to do a few things to make Cakewalk work:

Update preferences --> midi playback and recording -->
disable Always use sysx banks for MIDI files

Update preferences --> customization --> midi
enable split midi notes
enable non destructive midi editing

Use Options --> Ripple Edit All (enabled)
then press control+A to select all tracks.
right click on any of the tracks and split.
Update the Split at time option and select the time where the first marker is at - IE 2:01 or whatever. Click Ok.
Now highlight all the first segments in ALL tracks that have been split out as a result. Hit delete button on the keyboard. This will then automatically move all markers (first and subsequent) up and all tracks to 1:01.

Save file.
Done!
Import into PA5X.

PS. I have tested this process with MIDI type = 0 AND 1 and they both import successfully into PA5X. I would still use type 0 because that is what is recommended on this forum. DM me if you have any questions.

PPS. This works on Cakewalk free version from Bandlabs. DM me for the link where to download it.

P

I also tried this MIDI file you uploaded. I can let him go. I can place markers. I did everything as per the tutorial and it doesn't see it. I tried with other MIDI files, but it doesn't work. I'll record it all. Are you sure you tried your MIDI file in rhythm editing? Did you turn it 100% into a rhythm? My keyboard still doesn't recognize it, although it now has markers.

I remembered to try exporting a factory beat. I took the beat of Forget me. I successfully exported it and also successfully imported it. Factory rhythm converted to MIDI file wants to import. But why not the other MIDI files? Please let someone else get involved. This function-option is very important to me.

I have uploaded 2 MIDI files. The first MIDI file is uploaded on the first link, it is the factory rhythm FORGET ME. It is exported from the keyboard and can be loaded.

On the second link is a MIDI file sent to me by a colleague above, which cannot be loaded into the keyboard like any other MIDI file I have tried.

Hi, can I suggest you export a factory style as a .mid and study how it’s set out in your daw.

Unfortunately I still use my old XG Works sequencer to edit my styles on PC , so I’m not familiar with the newer daws. It does everything I need as far as editing goes, so I haven’t bothered getting involved with the newer stuff.

Are you actually trying to import/ export styles as midi files or are you trying to create a style from a song midi file. That requires far more work than just adding markers. You can’t have variations that contain chord progressions. I think Qui did a utube clip on it.
best wishes

I have already exported one rhythm from the keyboard. Read what I wrote above. I even posted a download link. On the first link is the factory rhythm that was converted from the keyboard. That beat is now a MIDI file. I can import that file into the keyboard, but I can't import any other MIDI file.

Yes. I'm trying to import a MIDI file into a beat. I need to make a rhythm from a midi file. I have 15-20 MIDI files from which I want to use some elements. It is clear to me that this non-converting cannot be professional, but what I heard on the player, I just need to import into the rhythm and it suits me.

Hi, your friends .mid , the file is not starting on the first beat of the bar?
On my sequencer it’s showing as 0001 01 197. Your markers are not starting on first beat of the bar either.

The midi file needs to be fixed before you can load it.

Could you send me a link of one of the midi file that you you'd like to convert to rhythm, i shall place markers and resend.

You already sent me the file that I downloaded. I tried it and it can't learn it in style. It sees it, but it won't import it into the style I'm editing. So, something is wrong. I will send you a midi file, you try to set the markers again, since you only set one marker on the previous one. Now try to place more markers. I did the same thing and it didn't work. I will make a video later.

Hi Korg2024. Look in this folder to see what I did to your midi file. This one imports just fine. You were close.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

All I did was delete all the non-Korg markers and I deleted the first empty track. Channel 1.

Let me know if this file works for you now.
