Okay, I'm considering switching to Macintosh, even though I've already got a 64-bit athlon in an HP.
So who do you prefer in your studio and/or abroad?

Mac ... primarily because of Logic and the excellence of CoreMidi/CoreAudio. Very stable too.

p.s. forgot to say ... a big part of the choice IMHO between platforms is what sequencer/DAW you want to use and which one you get stuff done most effectively in .. after all that is where you'll be spending all your time, rather than in the Finder or Explorer If you love Sonar and SoundForge (or Wavelab) ... then go for a PC ... if you love DP, Logic or Peak ... go Mac. Currently Cubase SX, Nuendo and Protools run on both ... so if you're a fan of those guys you have the platform choice.

Jojo,
What is it about the PC platform that makes you think about switching? |

Mac, because of Logic and the joy of surfing the internet without the worries of getting viruses!!! And the joy of plugging my new TritonEX to my Mac without the need of any drivers or things like that that are often a "plug and pray" game on Windows.

My absolute favorite thing about mac is their hardware design.
My least favorite: Steve Jobs, and how he complains about Microsoft.
Also, the number of OS releases. I don't want to buy a mac, then be outdated five minutes later when they release the UltiMAC OS or something.
Also to consider: The lack of a 64-bit processor available to the masses. You may argue that mac doesn't need that. Ask Steve Jobs, he'll tell you differently. The 64-bit processor allows for never-before-realized access to information.
Although....
From Xerox in 1978..The ALTO...
But still...I REALLY REALLY like MAC...it's just so proprietary...
But still...it beckons me!... _________________ -jojo

PC for Me.
I'm a long time Mac User - owned an Apple IIe, Serveral IIci's, Quadra 840, 7500, 8500, 9500, 9600, B/W G3, G4 400, and what finished me off was a Dual Processor Quicksilver G4 running OSX.
Now running an Athlon 64 Bit 3200 and not a minutes problems for music related stuff (running Cubase SX) I have a fast, reliable workstation (I'm not connected to the Internet) with much greater choice of software, many fantastic free or shareware plugins not available on the Mac and I haven't seen that beachball for months!
Ok, I know that there will be replies trying to win me back and point out the error of my ways but I have a great system that I'm really happy with so save your breath!
I had to use an OSX mac last week and it was just so slow and clunky to do a simple job I'm really glad I made the change.
Mind you, if I needed to run logic - I'd have no choice would I? |

well i see macs as the ultimate studio computer. Coreaudio makes audio apps work great........ people say freeware isn't as widely available which is true but usually i find the freeware isnt as good as products u pay for.. also mac's are way more reliable in my experiences...... but i just got a TE a few days ago and havent tried to plug it into my mac yet. |

I worked with MACs for years. Awesome.
PC has more to offer, sans stability. That is it.
If you use the same machine to surf the net as you do to record music, you need psychiatric help.
Two PCs for the single price of a mac. Go for it.

I use both, like both. The PC is my Creamware centre, the Mac is my sequencing + synth control center. Good and bad points for both. |
