|
|
Hi All
Just wanted to feed back my findings regarding MIDI "foot-controlling" the PA1XPro.
Firstly, thanks to Captain-keys for making me aware of this great MIDI foot controller and for helping me to get started with it.
The Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller is worth every cent in my honest opinion.
It is a little daunting at first to get it programmed but once you get into it, it becomes quite simple.
The Behringer FCB1010 is a MIDI foot controller and can provide 100 (10 banks of 10) presets (you configure them)
It has 10 foot switches and 2 expression pedals all on the one unit.
You can also use 2 of the pedals as "switches" hence removing the need for a separate footswitch in the PA1XPro "switch"
port.
I have successfully set mine up to perform the following functions:-
1. Select style elements (intro/ending/fills/var1/var2.../fade-in
2. Volume expression control of any track (expression pedal)
3. Manual rotary-speaker speed (the PA1XPRo rotary effect) using one of the expression pedals
4. Instant performance selection from any PA1XPro performance bank (this pedal supports CC#0 MSB/CC#32 LSB bank selection) - you can select bank and program change all together with one preset (single pedal operation)
5. SYSEX dumped the FCB1010 configuration to my PC (and tested restore of the same!)
Basically you can configure it to activate anything on the PA1XPro for which you have a Control Change (CC) or Program change (PC) value.
Sadly, Korg have not supplied a detailed MIDI implementation manual for the PA1XPro, but most of the CC & PC values are in the main manual.
One of my settings on my EC5 is "Lower-mute" to toggle Lower track muting. I have not yet figured out how to assign this on the FCB1010 as there is no documentation on how to activate that via MIDI - maybe it is a SYSEX message in which case I will use the FCB1010 switch option or simply keep my EC5 for those functions.
This pedal still does a whole lot more so I have more to investigate yet, but if any of you are interested or have any questions, I would be happy to help if I can.
Behringer FCB1010 specifications, manuals etc.. etc.. are at:-

Cheers

Hi all,
and this Controller works perfectly with our EXB-Board-Organ Legends.
The one foot switch is the volume.
The other one is a crossover between the slow and fast samples
You can Listen to the Demos at
http://www.pa1xpro.de/korg_audio_video_demos.htm
For the EXB2 in combination with the Behringer 1010 we made a program that allows the functions.
http://www.pa1xpro.de/demosEXB2/EXB2_FCB1010.zip
(only for Users with EXB2 - all others can not use this)

Hi Detlef
I have wondered how the PA1X is played in the EXB2 hammond blues demo - there are lots of subtle and smooth changes - was this demo played real-time or multitrack recorded in a sequence - was the FCB1010 used?
Thanks

Can this controller give me access to 10 different STS settings with just one push of one of the foot-switches? |

You can set each pedal to call up any configuration comprising CC#0, CC#32, PC, VALUE
where:-
CC#0 and CC#32 will be as for the style to which the STS belongs
PC will be 64-67 (STS1-STS4)
This will change the STS for the loaded style - if you want to actually select the style, then you will need to set up the CCs,PC and value to load that style.
Refer to Appendix "Factory Data" for all the MIDI set up (page 286 of the 2.52 manual)
All the manuals and details can be found at:-
http://www.behringer.com/FCB1010/index.cfm?lang=eng
The free excellent editor software for PC is here:
http://www.mtnsys.com/faq-fcb/PCEditorBeta.htm
Hope this helps
I mostly use my pedal to load performances, operate the assignment switch, control Upper 1 volume, and control Upper 2 volume.
There are 10 banks of 10 settings and all this can be easily set up via free, excellent PC software (URL above) rather than on the pedal (which is OK but fiddly)

Thank you but I don't think I understand. Right now I can push one of 4 STS buttons to pull up a preset. If I want to to get to another 4 STS settings, I must change Styles, etc.
I just wanted to know if this midi foot-switch would allow me to call up 10 different STS settings with the push of a foot-switch button and nothing else. Thank you. |

You are wanting a single pedal to call up the style AND the STS - you would have to assign 2 pedals for this - there is no way you can create a MIDI sequence of events for one single pedal press. There may be other ways of setting this type of thing but I haven't got that deep into the pedal yet - there may be a way of pressing pedals as a sequence - I'll look into it.. but I think you can only set up one "change" per pedal. Download the Editor and you will see exactly what you can assign to each pedal.
Hope this helps

Me again.. just checking to see if I have further misunderstood you - are you in fact wanting to play a particular style but be able to load other STS's (i.e. not already in STS 1-4). If this is the case remember that the STS is basically a performance - performances can be loaded with a single pedal selection.
Be careful loading performances as they will also change transpose if you have that option activated (lock setting) - this can destroy a live song !!!
Cheers

Thanks for sticking with me on this. I use the Pa1xPro in a live setting. I am not using the Arranger part of the keyboard. I am only using it like a regular keyboard in a band. Right now I can only change up to 4 sounds (STS) with a simple one button push. A lot of our songs require more sounds. So I have to hit a few more buttons to get into another bank of 4 STS settings. I thought this midi pedal could just give me 10 Preset sounds not Styles with one push of a foot-switch. I hope that makes sense. |

Aha - now I understand a little clearer - yes, I would go for "Performances" - you can set up each pedal to call up a performance - 10 performances instantly (single press of pedal) and by a single press you can change the bank and get another 10 (10 times!!).
The "performance" will set up your entire keyboard with the sound(s) you want (split/layered/single/volumes/panning etc.. etc..) just like an STS.
Just make sure you have the "transpose" lock ON otherwise if you use the transpose buttons during a number, the next loaded "performance" may change the key!!
I use Arranger mode but also use my FCB1010 pedal for this purpose - to simply change all the sounds/volumes/layering instantly during a song - works fine....
Hope this helps a bit more
Cheers

This is just what I need. Thank you, I will order one and download the editor program. I am sure I can use it for my other midi devices as well. Thanks again. |
