|

So I've managed to do this before with Pro Tools and my cheeseball Yamaha keyboard, so this shouldn't be too terribly impossible, but I'm having serious difficulties.
In a nutshell, I'm pretty new to Logic and am trying to set up a workflow with my Electribe MX. (Which is running through my Firewire 410.) I've flipped through the manuals for both, each confusing in their own special ways. I've scoured the internet, and there doesn't seem to be much out there in regards to people using these together. Midi Quest apparently doesn't support the EMX either, so that's no help.
So far, I've managed to create a multi-instrument for the Electribe, activated the six subchannels, and created tracks for the five synth parts and the drum part. Gravy. According to the transport window and MIDI Monitor, everything is coming in on the right channels. But I can't seem to record any MIDI data. (Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to arm MIDI tracks except by selecting them. It's not possible to record to more than one track simultaneously? )
Another issue is that Logic seems to be taking the EMX for a control surface. For example, any time I adjust the level on any track on the EMX, whatever track I have selected in Logic's volume will change accordingly. Same deal on playback. If there is motion sequencing, it will affect the track I have selected, and not the appropriate synth part in the case of level/pan/etc. or channel 1 in the case of FX and so on.
If anyone has any suggestions, can point me somewhere helpful, or better yet, can just send me a Logic session or environment that I can just play with, I would be much obliged. _________________ http://www.hidaridesu.com/ |

im not familiar with live but i will throw my 2 cents in for what could be causing you trouble
on the emx the majority of knobs only have one CC number it does not matter which part you have selected on the box itself they all get transmitted over the global midi channel
so the selected track on live is taking precedent over the selected part on your emx
make sense?
does the motion sequencing still effect the selected track when you have a no motion sequenced part selected on the emx during playback? |

totally,
now would you happen to know if theres a way to only have logic (or any computer sequencer) to record JUST the midi notes and send Just midi notes.
like some sort of filtering process that tells logic to only record and send notes, not effects like cutoff and drive and resonance.
this way you could motion sequence on the EMX independently of Logic |

select midi
then shift-midi util
select filter and make it so that it filters the cc numbers
youre probably going to want to leave the clock unfiltered aswell |

oh trust me...
I've gone through the manual several times.
its just that sometimes I know what I want to do but I'm not familiar with some terms so it makes things tricky. =/ |
